Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Clip May Have Revealed a Kingpin Spoiler

Parts of the upcoming trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day have appeared online before its official release today. One clip seems to reveal a spoiler for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, specifically concerning Vincent D’Onofrio’s character, Kingpin, and his history as Mayor of New York City, which was shown in the first season.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer clip possibly confirms Kingpin won’t be Mayor for long

Someone online shared a short clip from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. The clip shows Spider-Man receiving the key to New York City from a woman. Traditionally, the mayor—currently Wilson Fisk, as established in the Daredevil: Born Again storyline—is the one who presents the key.

Because someone other than Kingpin is giving Spider-Man the key, it suggests that Kingpin won’t be mayor for much longer – likely by the end of the second season of Born Again. It’s currently unclear if he’ll be removed from office through impeachment or if he’ll choose to resign himself.

Some viewers believe that Sheila Rivera (played by Zabryna Guevara), who works as the mayor’s aide and advisor in Brand New Day, might actually be Wilson Fisk in disguise.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, Iman Vellani could appear in the upcoming ‘Born Again’ series. Sana Amanat, an executive producer on the show, recently told Black Girl Nerds that Season 2 of ‘Born Again’ takes place before the events of ‘Brand New Day,’ and that the two shows will feature some of the same characters. She didn’t say which characters those would be, though.

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again will start streaming on Disney+ on March 24th. Plus, a new Spider-Man movie, titled Brand New Day, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31st. Both of these projects are part of Marvel’s Phase Six plans.

One storyline will focus on Daredevil forming a team to fight Wilson Fisk and his group dedicated to stopping vigilantes. The other will follow Spider-Man as he investigates a string of crimes that make him deal with choices he made in the past.

Dario Scardapane developed Born Again alongside Matt Corman and Chris Ord. Separately, Destin Daniel Cretton directed Brand New Day, based on a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
