A new promotional banner from an international website has given fans their first glimpse of Tarantula and Boomerang in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie promises plenty of villains, including Michael Mando returning as Scorpion – a character first introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Alongside returning foes, the film will also feature some villains never before seen in live-action movies.
A new promotional banner for the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released on a merchandise website. The banner shows several characters who will be in the film, including Tarantula and Boomerang, whose appearances have already been confirmed.
Although we already knew they would appear, this banner offers the first official glimpse of their character designs. While leaks from the upcoming Brand New Day update have shown the characters recently, this is the first official imagery released by the Brand New Day marketing team.

The promotional banner shows Boomerang and Tarantula standing side-by-side. While it’s unclear exactly how big their parts will be in the story, they’re placed on the banner between Spider-Man and Scorpion.

Boomerang, the character pictured, is dressed in a blue and white suit that’s true to his comic book appearance. He’s holding a boomerang in each hand and wearing his iconic V-shaped visor, brought directly from the comics.

As a movie fan, I noticed Tarantula – the character right below Boomerang – has a really cool suit. It’s mostly red and black, though it looks almost navy blue in some shots. It seems like he starts with a full red suit and then adds a vest and these armored gauntlets. What really stood out to me was the detail – he’s got these long pieces of fabric flowing from the back of his mask, which is awesome because it’s exactly how he looks in the comics!

The design of Boomerang in Brand New Day closely resembles his comic book appearance. The main difference is he’s holding two boomerangs instead of having them strapped to his back, which is likely why they’re not visible there.

Tarantula’s appearance closely matches his comic book counterpart, with one key difference: he doesn’t have the spider emblem on his chest. While the comic version of Tarantula features a spider symbol on his suit – much like Spider-Man – this detail was left out in the Brand New Day storyline.
Who Are Tarantula and Boomerang?
Boomerang and Tarantula aren’t among Marvel’s most famous villains, but they both have surprisingly detailed histories.
Boomerang, whose real name is Freddy Myers, used to be a professional baseball player. After being expelled from the league for taking bribes, he trained to become a deadly assassin. His background as a pitcher gave him exceptional skill in throwing things with pinpoint accuracy.
Throughout his life, Boomerang worked with various criminal groups. While often considered a Spider-Man enemy, he actually fought alongside many Marvel heroes at times. Still, he repeatedly returned to fighting Spider-Man, and even teamed up with villain groups like the Sinister Syndicate and the Sinister Six on multiple occasions.
Boomerang isn’t superhuman; he doesn’t have any special powers. Like Hawkeye, he’s just incredibly skilled with accuracy, and he’s practiced to be a master with boomerangs. He also uses specialized boomerangs – like those that deliver electric shocks, gas, or sharp blades – to give him an advantage in a fight.
Unlike most villain names, Tarantula wasn’t tied to a single character. Several different people have used the name over time. However, Anton Miguel Rodriguez is the character most frequently associated with the Tarantula identity and has battled Spider-Man the most often.
Anton immigrated to the United States and turned to a life of crime. After a quick encounter with Spider-Man, where he was easily defeated, he became determined to gain similar abilities. He began researching and experimenting, eventually testing his methods on himself in an attempt to replicate Spider-Man’s powers.
Anton tragically transformed into something inhuman – almost like a spider – and ultimately ended his life when confronted by police, having lost touch with his own humanity.
Tarantula and Boomerang will probably have small parts in the new movie. They might appear briefly in a recap sequence at the start, showing fans what Spider-Man’s been up to since No Way Home.
