The new Spartacus spinoff is still performing well on streaming, despite receiving mixed reviews since its release. It continues to attract viewers and maintain its popularity.
The new Spartacus prequel series launched on Starz on December 5th and quickly became popular with viewers on their streaming service. For the last week, it’s consistently been one of the top two shows. But, according to FlxiPatrol, Spartacus: House of Ashur is also performing extremely well on Prime Video.
While you can’t stream the series on Prime Video in the United States, it is available on Amazon Prime in various European countries and Turkey. It quickly became popular, reaching number two in countries like Austria, Germany, and Norway, and has remained consistently at number four in Turkey for the last seven days.
As a huge fan of the series, I’m already halfway through Spartacus: House of Ashur – Episode 5 drops on December 26th. After that episode, which was co-written by the show’s creator, Steven S. DeKnight, and Adam Bradley, the show will take a short break. We’ll have to wait until January 9th, 2026, for the next installment, but I’m already counting down the days!
What Happens in Spartacus: House of Ashur?
This new series continues the story of Spartacus and brings back Crixus, portrayed by Nick E. Tarabay. Originally, Crixus died on Mount Vesuvius, beheaded by Naevia, but the series reimagines his fate. They’ve altered the timeline to show him surviving and receiving his own gladiator school.
The story asks what would happen if Ashur lived through the events of ‘Vengeance’ and received his wish: control of the gladiator school he used to fight for. It then follows his journey as he climbs the ranks to become a powerful ‘Dominus’ – a leader – in the violent world of Roman gladiators, aided by a mysterious ally.
The TV series Spartacus: House of Ashur received very different reactions from critics and viewers. While critics generally liked it – giving it a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes – audiences were much less impressed, with only 46% giving it a positive review. The introduction of the first female gladiator on the show proved controversial, with some fans criticizing it as being overly focused on modern social issues.
