Despite my enjoyment watching Shep receive his due from Sienna, it’s becoming a bit repetitive now. Let’s discuss something new instead. How about trying to get JT to appear for 13 hours, that way we might have some fresh drama on this reality TV show? It seems possible!
Three days after the expected arrival, JT arrives short of money – a classic joke. It seems that none of this group can manage to catch a flight or apply sunscreen properly. Craig’s face is as red as the warning flags Shep should have been receiving about Sienna. Molly has a burn on just one shoulder that’s so severe she can’t wear a pink dress. As for Ryan, well… he certainly showed off his physique when he was on the boat in only his swim trunks, but I couldn’t get close to him because even a gentle wind would aggravate his sunburn, making any romantic escapades in the surf out of the question.
Indeed, JT appears only for dinner following a missed day of activities, yet he acts as if there’s no tension between him and nearly half of those present. It’s so uncomfortable that Sally and her superfluous vowels prefer not to sit beside him. In an attempt to mend fences with Sally, JT offers compliments, but she flatly refuses. She requests a discussion about their disagreements, and JT declines, citing dinner as inappropriate for such a discussion due to the company present. This behavior of JT’s infuriates me; he consistently dictates the rules, instructing others on how they should conduct themselves and conforming to his interpretation of etiquette. If people wish to discuss, let them do so. Even Sally voices her discontent, stating, “Why must everything always be according to your terms?
JT acknowledges his mistake in defending someone who ended up causing harm, saying it’s easy to miss the mark sometimes, and he needs to improve. This isn’t exactly an apology, but it’s a step in the right direction. What JT really wants to discuss is Craig falsely accusing him of calling Miss Patricia a derogatory term during their strange golf course conversation. This situation made people feel sorry for JT. Despite Craig insisting he’s telling the truth, his friend Shep claims he didn’t hear Craig use that word. Similarly, Shep says he didn’t overhear JT discussing an affair with Madison, which is also untrue according to him. When the women at the table who know JT well voice their doubts about his behavior, Madison senses something fishy and agrees to discuss it privately the next day.
In this situation, I find myself sympathizing with JT, as he’s locked in a standoff with Craig, who seems firmly entrenched within the group and unyielding in his belief that he’s right. Until Craig is willing to consider the possibility of misinterpretation, it appears JT is in a difficult position. It’s possible that their mutual animosity stems from an uncanny resemblance, as both men are stubborn and unwilling to apologize. Similarly, they each believe their methods are the only correct ones, and when others challenge them, they’re perceived as being wrong. They’re like two magnets with opposite charges, repelling each other due to their unwavering stances.
While I may find myself disagreeing with JT on certain matters, it’s important to note that this doesn’t make him inherently wrong or a nuisance. However, the reason many lean towards Craig is because his words often resonate with truth. I can’t help but wonder how everyone will react during the reunion after witnessing these events unfold on the show.
At the fake golf game, JT was indeed talking too much and lacking coherence, as Shep pointed out. Such behavior wasn’t appropriate, but his words, in comparison to what Craig has presented, seem relatively harmless. The actions he took towards Taylor, though, were regrettable, and he should take responsibility by apologizing to her.
In a different way of phrasing: It’s more appalling to me what he does to Venita. He deserts her at the table to retreat to his Sprinter van all by himself, resembling Mary Cosby with a McDonald’s bag. I find it fascinating how the rest of the cast are crammed into one van, while JT only manages to get Venita and Shep to travel with him. They hint to Whitney that if he rides in this particular van, there will be free cocaine, and he just blunders over and then mutters something like, “Oh, damn it’s JT’s van!” What makes this even worse is when he invites her to his room, blocks the cameras from entering, and then invites her in.
The editors provide some non-explicit footage of fireworks following the door shutting, leading us to believe something transpired, but it didn’t. Technically, something did occur, but nothing romantic. Venita confesses that she sat on JT and asked him if he wasn’t attracted to her as strongly as she was to him. He explained he couldn’t act because he has a girlfriend. Interestingly, I’ve never had a girlfriend myself, but from what I’ve gathered from reality shows, they generally don’t appreciate being alone with another woman in a hotel room, even if nothing untoward took place.
The following day, JT meets up with Madison for a discussion. Although the conversation seems to resolve some issues, she doesn’t grant him forgiveness. She advises him to show courage, board the boat, and engage in conversations with others. However, he declines, and it’s understandable given Craig’s volatile behavior. Craig is likely to shout that JT is a deceitful, short-tempered individual, preventing any constructive dialogue from occurring. Venita claims she urged him to go on the boat for her sake, but it didn’t change his mind. In his private thoughts, he expresses the need to depart due to the mounting tension within the group and because Venita continues to escalate the situation, so he decides to put an end to their interactions.
Instead of faulting Venita for this incident, it’s important to note that she was his sole ally among the cast and he had invited her into his hotel room without any cameras present. While I understand his desire for privacy, they were at a resort with numerous public areas where they could have avoided the cameras. Couldn’t they have gone to a waterslide or another public area? However, this man chose to invite a woman who harbored feelings for him into his private hotel room, and then he blames her when she misinterprets this as a sign of interest? Really, guy? That’s not fair.
The following day after our grand feast, we discovered another scene in the gentlemen’s room, a consequence of their late-night gambling spree – these are the images they seemed eager for us to view: a row of eight filled glasses or beverage containers neatly arranged on a counter, an untouched food service cart laden with leftover pizza and an unwanted hamburger, a kitchen faucet left running indefinitely, and a grubby foot belonging to Austen peeking out from under the comforter. The footage was unnecessary to reveal the details of their night.
After learning that Shep chose to sleep on a beach chair due to being expelled from the casino after getting excessively drunk, it’s deja vu of BravoCon all over again. It’s unfortunate when hearts get broken, but if Shep’s coping mechanism is to drink himself into oblivion, he has a long way to go before entering any relationship, especially with Molly, who seems to be constantly pushed upon him as if they were at a festival where everyone assumes more fun can be had with Molly around. You know, if Molly brings joy, makes life worth living, and even makes Tate McRae seem talented, it’s not unreasonable to assume she was crafted in an isolated lab by dedicated pop music enthusiasts.
Although I’ve been growing slightly weary of the Shep and Sienna narrative, there were still aspects I appreciated. It was spot-on that Craig reached out to Paige for a chat so she could fill Shep in on the situation. Her delivery was spotless, even framing it as advice her mother had given her long ago: “If she likes you, you’d know. She doesn’t like you!” Such bluntness was necessary, and no one else but Paige DeSorbo could have delivered it so effectively. Could we imagine a service where she offers this kind of straightforward advice? It sounds incredibly useful.
Additionally, it’s intriguing to observe their text conversation unfold on the screen. Sienna mentions she might miss the boat due to being late, and Shep stubbornly refuses her no. We watch as her typing indicators persist, and we repeatedly check our phones, only to find those dots still there, unchanged. This situation mirrors real life, and finally, the news comes that Sienna won’t be coming, a feeling of disappointment radiating from the text. Poor Shep is visibly affected, casting a shadow over the entire group mood, but it presents an opportunity for him to have a heartfelt talk with Madison – something I would never have anticipated even weeks ago. Perhaps it was her striking brown one-piece that did it. However, after another day spent basking under the Bahamian sun, cooking our favorite Southern dishes, the journey is far from over, and there’s no sign of a sunscreen spray bottle in sight. Ironically, I find myself yearning to return to Charleston – even if it means encountering JT again.
