This installment centered around some rather uncomfortable dialogues, sprinkled with one truly exceptional one. The exceptional one occurred when Madison and Patricia lounged on a canopy bed, sipping champagne from coupes, indulging in caviar served on chips with mother-of-pearl spoons, and driving their new butler up the wall with an annoying bell that rang as frequently as a toddler who had consumed a gallon of SunnyD.
In order to resolve the current situation we find ourselves in – a reality TV predicament – Madison and Craig must first address the underlying tension. This arises when Madison confronts Craig about JT, who had spoken negatively about her and Austen, and his attempt to reintegrate JT into their group. Madison is displeased with this decision, and Craig, still upset over their post-Molly’s tuba concert altercation, shares the same sentiment.
Madison then encourages Craig to give Austen another opportunity, expressing her concern that his absence has affected him deeply, and suggesting they can work through their issues together. Craig voices his belief that Austen is taking their friendship for granted. However, it seems as though the reverse may be true – could it not be the other way around?
Craig makes it clear to Austen that he will only interact with him on his own terms, considering terminating their podcast collaboration, no longer wishing to drink together, and questioning whether Austen will remain his friend after these changes. This response comes as a surprise, given that all Austen had expressed was a desire for more time spent together. This exchange leaves one wondering if the concept of ‘granted’ has ever been taken so harshly as it is here.
In the upcoming scene, Molly and Salley engage in a candid discussion about their cosmetic surgeries over coffee. They’ve both had Botox and chin filler, but Salley also opted for breast implants to appease her ex-fiancé who ended up cheating on her. Now she’s contemplating removal, which could potentially limit her ability to go braless in trendy crop tops – something I, as a movie enthusiast, can’t help but find intriguing and unfortunate, given the eye-catching effect it had on Rodrigo and me.
It seems Molly is the one who outdoes everyone else. Not only did she opt for liposuction on her ankles, which she found too large, and a breast augmentation using the fat removed, but she also underwent some form of gum contouring, leaving many of us wondering – is that possible? How is it done? Is it painful? Does it grow back like Meredith’s mythical breasts? It’s hard to fathom why one would do this, and I can’t help but question if I might need the same procedure. Let’s double-check my gums just in case!
In simpler terms, this conversation appears to serve no purpose other than furthering the idea that Molly might be romantically compatible with Shep, who doesn’t seem interested in her. Moving forward, we encounter another awkward dialogue involving Austen and Shep. It seems Shep is having issues with his girlfriend, Sienna. He’s upset because she didn’t reply to his message asking about her whereabouts, and when she finally did, it was to say she was in the Bahamas. In response, he expressed his feelings for her and their future plans. This seems to be a familiar pattern for Shep, as women have likely been texting him this way while he’s been indifferent and stringing them along, only to discard them once a more attractive colleague catches his eye. It’s quite ironic that Shep is now experiencing the same treatment, and it’s not sitting well with him.
Initially, she admits she had personal issues and required some solitude, a response that, as Shep has found out, he can readily find on his phone to send to different women. However, she’s turning it back on him, and I must admit, I find it delightful. Let’s keep teasing this fellow through text messages until the next Summer Olympics; he deserves it after all this drama. Shep consults Austen about the situation, and Austen advises him to relax a bit, let her feel his absence, and she’ll return. Though Shep believes Craig offers better relationship advice, I agree with Austen on this occasion. If Shep grants her space and she reconnects, it suggests her interest. If not, well, things will naturally fade away, and Shep understands her feelings. Either way, it’s essential to respect the distance she requests.
In regards to her motives, it’s when we finally dive into an engaging discussion. Madison pays a visit to Miss Pat and shares that at a gathering, she encountered Sienna who mentioned her grandmother is the head of the Southern Charm fan club based in the Bahamas. This is why Sienna went on a date with Shep. Translated, it means that instead of saying it wasn’t a serious intention but more like a whim to go out with a reality star and see what transpires, things didn’t turn out as she expected because she ended up liking the man, allowing Shep to fulfill his tropical colonial dream of having Bahamian children living in a picturesque beach house.
Patricia discards another pair of kitten heels adorned with Malibu sand. Earlier, Sienna had contacted Whitney on Raya, before her relationship with Shep started. Whitney mentioned he wouldn’t inform Shep and advised Patricia to keep it a secret too. However, after spending time in an ornate four-poster bed, sipping two glasses of champagne, it seems Whitney might be using these men as stepping stones for her own reality show career. While I don’t judge her intentions, it appears that Whitney and Shep may have different expectations for their relationship, which could signal potential issues down the line.
Moving forward with an uncomfortable topic: Let’s talk about Shep and Austen’s lunch where they discuss Sienna. Suddenly, Austen receives a call from Craig, eager to socialize. Austen appears noticeably excited, suggesting this is a friend he trusts and hopes to reconcile with. As they head out together, Craig invites Shep along to mediate in what seems to be an amicable separation between him and Austen. The plan is for Craig to offer Austen a substantial amount (between $30,000 to $50,000) to relinquish his role in their podcast permanently. This whole situation feels rather unsavory. It seems Austen is trying to rebuild their friendship, while Craig is attempting to extricate himself from business obligations in a cost-effective manner.
As Craig enters the restaurant accompanied by Shep, heading towards Austen, his expression shifts similar to how Madison might look upon stepping into her Uber after a series of champagne flutes at Miss Pat’s home. Craig had assumed this was a guys’ get-together, reminiscent of their past times, but it appears they have different plans. Eager to discuss the podcast, Craig finds Austen asking, “But what about our friendship?” instead.
This discussion is tough due to some misunderstandings. To clarify, Craig seems mistaken about the situation since Austen didn’t intend to insult him when he visited Craig’s house. Instead, Austen was expressing concern over Craig neglecting time with friends, fearing an imbalance in his work and personal life. After that, Craig took a harsh stance, saying either be supportive or leave, which isn’t how support should operate. For a relationship to thrive, mutual understanding and cooperation are essential. In this case, Craig appears unyielding, suggesting he wants things done his way only, and that doesn’t foster a sustainable connection.
Craig believes they’re inviting him for drinks and socializing frequently, but they clarify this isn’t the case. Instead, they enjoy spending casual daytime hours with him, particularly indulging in oysters together. They value quality time with Craig. Craig points out that he interacts with them during podcast recordings and at the gym, but those are work-related matters. They don’t want to be his colleagues; they wish to be his friends, a distinction Craig seems to find hard to grasp. Shep, who was supposed to back Craig up, now aligns more with Austen, saying Craig merely needs to put forth some effort to rekindle their friendship. Essentially, these friends are encouraging Craig to give it a try. Despite acknowledging he should make an effort, Craig states, “However, my lifestyle isn’t going to change drastically from what it is now.
Craig finds himself in a predicament: he can maintain his current life, which includes work, spending time with Paige, tending to his garden, and creating an abundance of pillow content that even Mike Lindell might find excessive; or he can have friends. For now, it appears he has no desire for companionship at all, wishing instead to sever ties with both of them and withdraw into his immaculate sanctuary. However, I ponder how long this solitude will last. One day, he may lift his head and crave oysters at an unusual hour like 3:30 PM on a Wednesday, but alas, there will be no one around to share the experience of slurping down those slippery mollusks with him. Yet, Craig could have both options if only he wouldn’t be so obstinate.
Moving on to our following, less pleasant discussion: Venita invites JT over due to her feelings for him, hoping to advance their relationship. She prepares a charming branzino in her charming kitchen, decorated with charming wallpaper and a charming pink peppermill, while her charming dog, Charles, plays around her feet. However, when JT arrives, everyone seems uncomfortable with his presence.
While we munch on our snacks, JT confides in me that, indeed, there’s a spark between us, but alas, he’s seeing someone else at the moment, making it impossible for us to pursue anything romantic with Venita. Hang on, if Venita is among his inner circle and she’s unaware of this mystery woman, how intimate can their friendship really be? JT needs to clarify the situation a bit more. Is this girl he’s been committed to for three months now? Or is this someone he matched with on a dating app and has only gone out with a handful of times? I guess we need a bit more context here.
The man argues that dating a new girl could complicate matters for them in the future, and his reasoning appears solid. If he had dated Venita while being involved with other women, she would constantly fear losing him to someone perceived as better. However, this situation seems self-made. One might wonder why he can’t date multiple women simultaneously, as it is considered acceptable among young people in urban areas, provided everyone adheres to the standards of decency. If both parties are aware of his dating lifestyle, what makes it a problem? The issue arises when trust is broken. Although he will eventually make a choice, why freeze Venita out unnecessarily? Additionally, imagine being Venita and getting rejected by JT –– someone who values integrity?
JT portrays himself as a man of high moral standards –– honest and rule-abiding at all times. However, this strict adherence to rules may be causing more harm than good to the feelings he’s trying to protect. Unless his affections for Venita are not as strong as he suggests, that conversation would become even more uncomfortable. Essentially, JT’s rigid approach to dating could make him seem less like a man of integrity and more like someone who is hurtful towards others due to his inflexibility.
