With Hilary Duff’s new album coming out, many are wondering if she’ll address the end of her friendship with Frankie Muniz. Muniz recently revealed on a podcast that he believes Duff’s mother played a role in their falling out. He explained that her mother pushed for Duff to get the lead female role in the movie Agent Cody Banks, and that this created a rift between them. Muniz, who considered Duff his best friend from age 12 or 13, shared these details with Page Six following his initial podcast appearance.
The story started when Frankie Muniz appeared on Hilary Duff’s Disney Channel show in 2002. While on set, he mentioned to Duff’s mom that he was filming a movie where he played a character similar to a young James Bond. Duff’s mom then convinced Hilary to play Natalie Connors in the film – Muniz had actually hoped Kristin Kreuk from Smallville would get the part. Muniz admitted he wasn’t entirely happy with the decision, but clarified it wasn’t because he didn’t want Hilary involved, though he felt he’d already revealed too much about the situation.
Muniz mentioned he hadn’t talked to Duff since they finished filming together. He expressed regret over not maintaining their friendship, which had lasted a long time, and admitted he was upset with her mother. He jokingly hoped she might appear on the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle reboot to resolve any lingering issues.
