Sony believes the PlayStation 5’s most popular game is still on the way, even after five years on the market. Eric Lempel, a senior VP at PlayStation, recently shared that the console is now really hitting its stride, and they have a good idea what game will eventually become its best-seller.
We’re finally finding our rhythm now,” Lempel told BBC News. He wouldn’t reveal which game would be the biggest seller for the PS5, but hinted that it hasn’t been released yet.
Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the top-selling PlayStation 5 game in the US, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Several other games, like Marvel’s Wolverine and Saros, are in the works for the console. However, analysts believe the biggest hit will be GTA 6 when it finally releases. Despite being pushed back to November 2026, excitement for GTA 6 is incredibly high. The previous installment, GTA 5, has sold over 220 million copies as of November 2025, making it one of the best-selling games ever, and it’s returning to the PS Plus Game Catalog this month.
The PlayStation 5 has sold 84.2 million units to date, and Sony believes it’s still only halfway through its expected lifespan. Recent financial reports show that the game Ghost of Yotei has sold 3.3 million copies. However, sales of Destiny 2 were lower than anticipated, resulting in a $204 million loss for Sony.
