Sony has decided to keep its biggest, story-driven games exclusive to PlayStation, ending years of gradually releasing them on other platforms.
Talk about a potential shift in Sony’s strategy started in late February. Reporter Jason Schreier noted that while Sony seemed happy to release games with ongoing services on multiple platforms, they were becoming less focused on bringing their classic, story-driven, single-player games to PC.
He emphasized that he wasn’t just guessing. He explained that he often discusses potential stories on his show before he’s fully prepared to publish them, and promised more details were coming. A few days later, a comprehensive report from Bloomberg was released, revealing a concerning situation.
Sony confirms PlayStation exclusives are staying exclusive
Bloomberg confirmed a report that Sony has canceled plans to release several of its PlayStation games on PC. This includes the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, known as Ghost of Yotei, as well as the new action game, Saros. These titles will now remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles.

Games like Marathon and Marvel Tokon will continue to be available on various platforms. Additionally, Sony will still release PC versions of games made by other developers, including Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, later this year. However, Sony’s major, story-focused games will remain exclusive to PlayStation.
Bloomberg reports that concerns were raised inside the company about whether releasing games on PC was damaging the PlayStation brand and impacting sales of their consoles. Several of these PC releases hadn’t sold as well as expected, adding to those concerns.
The financial figures confirm this. Sony reported that its games on platforms other than PlayStation earned $2.37 billion over almost four years – a significant amount, but small compared to the $31.7 billion earned by its gaming division in 2024 alone. Releasing games on PC accounted for only 1-2% of Sony’s overall gaming revenue during that same period.
