Sony is suing an eBay seller for $2 million in federal court, claiming they were selling fake PlayStation 5 accessories. This is part of Sony’s larger effort to stop the sale of counterfeit PlayStation products on popular online platforms.
In 2025, Sony actively pursued sellers of fake products on sites like Amazon, Walmart, and AliExpress. Now, they’re focusing a new legal effort on one specific store on eBay.
A lawsuit was filed in Illinois on October 24th against a seller known as “zaocuand-002,” who is accused of selling fake PlayStation products and violating trademark laws. The complaint alleges the seller marketed and sold these counterfeit items to customers across the U.S., including residents of Illinois.
This seller has a strong reputation, with over 9,000 sales and a 97.8% positive feedback rating. They are currently offering a PlayStation 5 carrying case for $89.59. The listing was temporarily taken down but is now available again.

Sony seeks injunctions and millions in damages
Sony is suing eBay and other online marketplaces, requesting they remove listings and shut down the accounts of sellers offering fake Sony products. They are also asking the court for up to $2 million in damages for each instance of trademark counterfeiting.
The complaint features pictures of the seller’s online shop and products, and claims the seller is using fake names while still using official branding in product titles, descriptions, and behind-the-scenes data. This is done to trick customers and get more people to find their products online.
On July 25, 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment sued Tencent, a major Chinese technology company, claiming that Tencent’s new game, Light of Motiram, closely copies Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn.
