Sony quickly shut down Concord after just two weeks, and now appears committed to keeping it offline. They recently sent DMCA takedown notices to fans who were trying to bring the game back to life as ‘Concord Delta.’ These fans had successfully revived the game using their technical skills, creating a playable, though unfinished, version on a private server.
The developers who brought back Concord tried to limit potential problems by keeping the project small and private. However, they’re now worried about legal trouble after Marscan – a company that polices online content for clients like Sony and has previously issued copyright takedown notices for projects like the Bloodborne demake – filed infringement claims against videos related to Concord.
A developer announced on the team’s Discord server (as reported by The Games Post) that they’ve temporarily stopped sending out invites because of potential legal issues. So far, Sony hasn’t taken action against the Concord Delta server itself, only content showing it being used on platforms like YouTube and social media.
The game Concord had a very difficult start in 2024, ultimately leading to the shutdown of its development team, Firewalk Studios. Although Sony continues to invest in live-service games and has taken steps to improve after offering full refunds to Concord players, the game became a case study for the UK Parliament, highlighting the need to preserve video games for the future.
