Sonic the Hedgehog fans have a lot to look forward to! A new movie is planned for release next March, and even more projects are already in development, suggesting 2026 will be another great year for the character. Since the successful release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 2020, the speedy blue hero has starred in several popular games and films, marking a resurgence for the franchise.
Okay, so I was a huge fan of the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog comic that came out in 2025 – seriously, it was a blast! And guess what? They’re doing another one! It’s called DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion, and it picks up the story. I just found out it’s hitting shelves on May 5, 2026. I’m already marking my calendar!

Sonic’s Latest Comic Collaboration Is Speeding Towards a May 2026 Release
The new comic book series, DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion, will continue the story started in 2025 with another five issues. The first series teamed up Sonic and his friends with the Justice League to fight a common enemy, Darkseid, and this next installment will build on that team-up.
Okay, so things just got really interesting. This new arc throws these weird mechanical rings into the mix, connecting the different worlds – and thankfully, it means our heroes are back together! But don’t get too comfortable, because it quickly becomes clear someone’s been manipulating everything from behind the scenes. The good news? Ian Flynn, the mastermind behind so many great Sonic comics at both Archie and IDW, is back writing, and he’s teamed up once again with the fantastic artist Adam Bryce Thomas. Flynn himself told me…
I really enjoyed working on the first crossover, and I’m thrilled we’re finally following up on that cliffhanger. I hope readers have as much fun experiencing this second part as I had creating it.
The first issue of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion will be 32 pages long and hits shelves on May 5, 2026. Future issues of the series will feature even more characters from the Sonic universe joining forces with DC heroes.

SEGA’s Iconic Speedster Is Celebrating His 35th Anniversary in 2026
2026 marks the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, and fans are anticipating more games and content beyond the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration later this year. The anniversary celebration kicked off with the digital release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in September 2025, with a physical version planned for March 2026.
Rovio and SEGA recently paused the initial release of their mobile game, Sonic Blitz, to make further improvements. They plan to launch it worldwide later this year. In addition, fans believe a brand new Sonic game is being developed to commemorate a special anniversary for the franchise.
