Sonic 4 title rumor hints at return of 2 fan favorite characters

Okay, so I’m hearing that Paramount is already making Sonic the Hedgehog 4! And get this – there’s a rumor going around that the movie might focus on two other classic Sonic characters instead of just Sonic himself. That would be pretty cool, honestly!

The series has improved significantly since its rocky start in 2019. The initial trailer received a lot of criticism, which led Paramount to redesign the main character to be more faithful to the original video game. This proved to be a smart choice, as the franchise has since earned over $1 billion.

As a long-time Sonic fan, it’s awesome to see so many characters from the games finally make it to the big screen! The second movie brought in Tails, voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Knuckles, played by Idris Elba, which was incredible. And now, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3, we’re getting Shadow the Hedgehog, and Keanu Reeves is voicing him! It’s a dream come true seeing these characters brought to life.

Jeff Fowler is directing a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie currently scheduled to come out in March 2027. However, the studio is considering renaming it to align with the video game titles, and this could involve bringing back two beloved characters from the games.

Paramount might change the title from Sonic 4 to Sonic CD

Daniel Richtman, a reliable source for entertainment news, reports that Paramount is considering naming the fourth Sonic movie “Sonic CD.” This title references a 1993 game that first featured the characters Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Since both Amy and Metal Sonic appeared briefly after the credits of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” the name would fit with the movie’s storyline.

The scene features a battle where Sonic is ambushed by a robotic army in a forest, but Amy Rose arrives to help him win. During promotion for the new home release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Fowler also mentioned the classic game Sonic CD.

We really wanted to add a female character alongside Amy, but also stay true to how both characters were originally presented in Sonic CD. It felt great to respect that original timeline and introduce them at the same time.

If Sonic 4 or Sonic CD incorporated the story from Sonic CD, it could be amazing. That game features Dr. Robotnik attempting to turn the moon into a massive base using time-bending stones. A key part of the story involves traveling to a bleak alternate future where Robotnik succeeds, and fans are eager to see that possibility explored.

Fans on X were thrilled with the news, and many began speculating about whether Silver the Hedgehog, a hero who travels from the future, might also appear. People shared their excitement online, with comments like “I’m really curious to see how this develops,” “I’m totally on board with this,” and “YES, Metal Sonic!”
