The latest Sonic the Hedgehog movie is adding a big name to its cast. Although it’s still unknown if Jim Carrey will be back for the sequel, another famous actor is now joining the project.
Jeff Sneider from TheInsider reports that Ben Kingsley has joined the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, scheduled for release on March 19, 2027. The acclaimed actor, recently known for his role as Trevor Slattery in the Wonder Man series, will play a significant part in the new film. While his specific character hasn’t been revealed, Kingsley joins a cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Kristen Bell as Amy Rose. Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey are also likely to reprise their roles as Knuckles and Tails.
With director Jeff Fowler recently announcing the beginning of production for Sonic 4 on social media, casting news is starting to emerge. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the ending of the last movie hinted that this installment will focus on Sonic and Amy working together to defeat a large force of Metal Sonics. So far, everything suggests the sequel will draw heavily from the Sonic the Hedgehog CD game, potentially meaning a story involving time travel. Although Dr. Robotnik was the villain in CD, it’s currently unknown if he’ll play the same role in this film adaptation.

Marvel Entertainment
I was so thrilled to see Sir Ben Kingsley getting another big role after all the buzz around his performance in Wonder Man! That Disney+ series was really interesting, following these actors trying to make it big in a superhero remake. I know some fans weren’t happy with his character in Iron Man 3, but honestly, Marvel really redeemed themselves by bringing him back for a role that truly showcases his incredible talent. And it doesn’t stop there – he’s got Young Washington coming up, and I’m especially excited for Terrence Malick’s The Way of the Wind. It’s great to see him consistently working on such diverse and exciting projects!
Since Jim Carrey hasn’t confirmed his return for the fourth Sonic movie, Ben Kingsley is a likely candidate to play the villain. The Sonic games don’t have many villain options, and Kingsley might even be portraying a different version of Dr. Robotnik. Interestingly, early ideas for Sonic 3 showed Carrey’s character, Eggman, as the leader of a ruined future world, hinted at after the credits. This could suggest Kingsley will play a similar powerful, future-ruling antagonist, even if it’s not the same character as Robotnik.
