As a cinema devotee with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that the latest installment of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has taken me by surprise and left me eagerly anticipating the next chapter. The cameo of Amy Rose, a beloved character from the video game series, hints at an intriguing storyline for the upcoming “Sonic 4.

⚠️ Caution: This write-up unveils crucial plot details including the climax and after-credit sequence of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” currently screening in cinemas.

Much like the final scenes of the first two “Sonic the Hedgehog” films, the third one paves the way for the fourth film – set to hit theaters in 2027 – by incorporating an unexpected guest appearance.

Following their successful rescue mission against Dr. Ivo Robotnik and his grandfather Gerald Robotnik (both portrayed by Jim Carrey), Sonic (Ben Schwartz) competes in a speed contest with Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba). Sonic swiftly emerges victorious, leaving his friends far behind. However, his triumphant moment is cut short when he becomes disoriented in a dense forest. Soon enough, a troubling situation arises as Sonic encounters a group of robots that mirror his appearance. These robots are modeled after Metal Sonic, an evil android from the games developed by Dr. Robotnik. Known for its advanced capabilities surpassing those of Sonic, Metal Sonic boasts abilities like super-strength, invisibility, chaos powers, and self-replication.

Fortunately, the Metal Sonics are hot on the hero’s tail, but just in time, a mysterious figure cloaked in shadow steps in to save him. To the delight of fans everywhere, this enigmatic character is none other than Amy Rose! Similar to how Tails and Shadow (Keanu Reeves) were hinted at in the final scenes of the first two “Sonic” films, it’s evident that Amy will be a crucial part of “Sonic 4.” Known for her pink fur and often depicted as Sonic’s romantic interest, Amy may not possess his speed or Knuckles’ strength, but she is more than capable with her massive hammer, which can effortlessly vanquish any adversary.

It seems that Shadow and the Robotniks meet their apparent ends during the climactic battle on the colossal space cannon. In a treacherous turn, Ivo betrays his grandfather, Gerald, by pushing him into the energy reactor. Subsequently, Ivo and Shadow deliberately give up their lives to divert the laser away from Earth. The space station detonates with everyone still aboard – yet it’s no secret that Ivo has a history of miraculously cheating death. Even after vanishing at the end of “Sonic 2”, Ivo reappeared. However, the concluding post-credits scene implies that Shadow managed to endure the blast and returns to Earth, foreshadowing his appearance in “Sonic 4.

Schwartz remained secretive regarding the details of “Sonic 4”, but hinted that it would be visually stunning and distinct from the first three movies in its narrative.

He expressed that the same elements we find at the conclusion of this film are what he envisions for the fourth. There’s a compelling narrative that could be utilized, and it would take our series in a completely fresh direction, he added. That’s what makes these projects so thrilling. Each of these films seems to belong to a different genre almost. The first one leans more towards a buddy comedy. The second one has an adventurous feel, similar to an “Indiana Jones” movie. This one delves into the shadows, and the next could have a completely different atmosphere. It’s absolutely fantastic. Additionally, we can bring on board remarkable actors to embody new characters, which is incredibly exciting.
