In a new twist, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 boasts Keanu Reeves, a popular actor, providing the voice for Shadow the Hedgehog. As for the film adaptation, it surpasses any of Keanu Reeves’ John Wick films in size, according to one measure.
In a surprising turn of events, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has surpassed the domestic earnings of all John Wick films combined, with a total of $220 million in the U.S. market. For reference, the original John Wick movie made $43 million domestically, while its sequel earned $92 million. The third installment in the John Wick series brought in $171 million, and John Wick 4 has managed to earn $187 million so far. This fascinating comparison was initially pointed out on social media by The Cartoon Base.
Worldwide, John Wick remains unchallenged at the top, having earned an impressive $440 million during its 2023 release. Not far behind, Sonic 3 has garnered a substantial $424 million globally to date.
In box office earnings, The Matrix Reloaded holds the record as Keanu Reeves’ highest-grossing film to date. It raked in an impressive $281 million within the U.S., and another $460 million internationally, resulting in a grand total of $741 million worldwide.
Over a span of three films, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has surpassed the $1 billion mark in earnings. A fourth installment is slated for release in March 2027, with Ben Schwartz confirmed to reprise his voice role as Sonic, and there’s a strong possibility that Jim Carrey, who portrayed Dr. Robotnik, will return if the script appeals to him.
