Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen Cast Guide: Who Stars In The Duffer Brothers’ New Show

Netflix’s horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, is truly memorable, largely due to its fantastic cast. Created by Haley Z. Boston and executive produced by the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, the series had a strong foundation to begin with. Combined with a cast that naturally delivers chills and thrills, and a premise that’s both unique and subtly funny, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen was almost guaranteed to be a success.

Okay, so I just finished watching “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” and it’s a really unsettling watch. The story centers around Rachel and Nicky, a couple heading to Nicky’s family cabin for their wedding. From the start, Rachel is plagued by this creeping dread that everything isn’t right, and honestly, she’s not wrong. Let’s just say Nicky’s family is…eccentric, to put it mildly. Each member contributes to this growing sense of unease, and the actors do a fantastic job of making you feel Rachel’s mounting suspicions. It’s a slow burn, but a very effective one.

Camila Morrone As Rachel Harkin

Camila Morrone, a Los Angeles native, started her acting career with a small role in the 2013 film Bukowski. She continued to build her resume with parts in Never Goin’ Back and Death Wish in 2018. Her career took off in 2023 with Daisy Jones & the Six, which led to notable roles in Marmalade (2024) and the second season of The Night Manager (2026).

I’m really excited about seeing Jessamine Morrone in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen! She plays Rachel, a woman about to marry, and the whole story follows her as she travels to meet her future in-laws. Apparently, Rachel is a bit of a worrier and very superstitious, so she keeps noticing all these unsettling signs that something awful is going to happen, either during or after the wedding. It sounds super tense!

Adam DiMarco As Nicky Cunningham

Adam DiMarco, a Canadian actor, started his career with roles in Disney Channel movies like Radio Rebel and Zapped. He gained wider recognition playing Todd in the fantasy series The Magicians from 2016 to 2020. He will star as Peter in the comedy series Overcompensating, which is set to premiere in 2025.

In the film Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, actor DiMarco plays Nicky, the devoted fiancé of Rachel. Nicky grew up in a rich and big family, and he thinks he understands love because of how his parents showed it. He and Rachel have a cute and unusual connection, but that can’t prevent Rachel from struggling with her worries.

Jennifer Jason Leigh As Victoria Cunningham

In recent years, she’s appeared in films like The Hateful Eight (2015), The Woman in the Window (2021), and Night Always Comes (2025), among others.

In the film Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Jason Leigh portrays Victoria Cunningham, the mother of Nicky. While Victoria is clearly an odd character, she is consistently kind to Rachel. The film suggests the rest of the Cunningham family feels a lot of pressure to keep her content.

Ted Levine As Boris Cunningham

Ted Levine, originally from Ohio and raised in Illinois, first gained widespread recognition in 1991 for his role as James Gumb (Buffalo Bill) in The Silence of the Lambs. This was just the beginning of a successful career, which included appearing with Al Pacino in the 1995 crime film Heat. He then became well-known for his long-running role as Leland Stottlemeyer in the series Monk, starting in 2002. Levine has also starred in popular films like The Fast and the Furious (2001), Shutter Island (2010), and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), among others.

In the film Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Levine portrays Boris Cunningham, the father figure of the family. Boris doesn’t talk much, but like his daughter Rachel, he believes in superstitions. He was a strict parent, but he deeply loves his wife, Victoria.

Jeff Wilbusch As Jules Cunningham

Jeff Wilbusch, an actor from Israel and Germany, first gained widespread recognition in 2018 with his role in the Hulu miniseries Bad Banks. In the Netflix series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Lucius Wilbusch plays Jules, Nicky’s brother. Like his father, Jules is a doctor, and he’s initially distant with Rachel. He and Nicky have a strained relationship, built on years of rivalry and feeling like their parents played favorites.

Karla Crome As Nell Cunningham

Karla Crome, a British actress, first became well-known for her role as Riley in the 2012 miniseries Hit & Miss. She continued to gain recognition with a part as Coleen in BBC2’s Murder later that year. In 2019, she played a leading role in the series Carnival Row for two seasons, and has since appeared in the recent miniseries Toxic Town and Lazarus, both released in 2025.

I was really intrigued by Crome’s character, Nell, in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. She’s Jules’ second wife, and like Rachel, she feels like an outsider trying to fit into the Cunningham family. That instantly made me wonder if she and Nicky could connect, maybe even become friends. But honestly, with everything else going on in that family, it’s hard to tell if anyone is really trustworthy, Nell included!

Gus Birney As Portia Cunningham

Date Of Birth: July 27, 1999

• Active since: 2012

Gus Birney began her acting career in film with the movie Here and Now in 2018, and went on to appear in films like I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020) and Plan B (2021). She also had roles in several TV shows, including The Mist (2017), Jessica Jones (2019), and Insatiable (2019). More recently, she starred as Gaynor Phelps in the Apple TV horror series Shining Vale (2022-2023) and will appear in the 2025 film Black Rabbit.

In the show Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Birney portrays Portia Cunningham, the younger sister of Nicky. As the most sociable member of her family, Portia often gets the most attention from Rachel. However, being the youngest child in a very wealthy and eccentric family, she also exhibits typical spoiled tendencies.
