Somehow, The Borderlands 4 Crit Knife Has Returned

When Borderlands 4 was first released, a single throwing knife was unbelievably powerful, so much so that it was quickly patched by Gearbox. Now, that same overpowered knife – nicknamed the “Crit Knife” – is back, and it’s almost as strong as it used to be thanks to a recent update.

The Crit Knife was initially too powerful in Borderlands 4, letting players defeat bosses incredibly quickly. This was done using a throwing knife combined with the ‘Penetrator’ upgrade, which guaranteed critical hits for a short time. Because the Crit Knife became the most effective strategy and outshined other builds, it was weakened in a patch on October 23, along with another item called the ‘horny BDSM shield’.

The updated Crit Knife was okay, but it wasn’t great. Gearbox designed it so the Penetrator Augment gave a consistent 30% chance to land a critical hit for five seconds. However, this could actually lower your overall critical hit chance if you already had ways to boost it through equipment or abilities.

The latest update includes a bug that’s unexpectedly boosting the Penetrator Augment. It’s now adding a 30% chance to land critical hits, and this effect can happen multiple times, potentially giving players a massive 90% critical hit chance for five seconds.

The critical hit knife is available again! Now you only need to throw it three times to reach 90% critical hit chance, with a fourth throw to go over, or any other source of critical hit chance. It’s a bit strange, but it works! This knife is something else.

The Crit Knife isn’t quite as powerful as it used to be, but it’s still almost as strong as it was before the recent update. However, Gearbox is constantly making changes to the game, so this likely won’t last long. If you currently have the Crit Knife, take advantage of its strength while you can.
