It appears that Sony has discreetly introduced animated backdrops for the PS5, yet these have only been given to a small number of users thus far.
It appears that Twitter user chi-m02 has found instances where certain gamers can swap their background with a variety of fresh animations showcasing popular PlayStation game series. Thirteen such backgrounds have been verified thus far, among them are:
- Astro Bot
- Days Gone
- Demon’s Souls
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Ghost of Yotei
- God of War Ragnarok
- Horizon: Call of the Wild
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Lego Horizon Adventures
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Rise of Ronin
- Stellar Blade
- MLB The Show 25

It’s worth noting that these animated backgrounds appear to be exclusive to the PS5 home screen and not like the comprehensive themes such as the 25th Anniversary ones. Many PS5 users have expressed a strong interest in themes, as they were disappointed when PlayStation announced that the classic anniversary themes would be taken down. However, PlayStation has reassured users that these themes will be back at a later time.
Previously, Sony introduced an upgrade allowing users to customize the backdrop for their Welcome Screen. This enabled them to select from a range of pre-set images or opt for a snapshot saved in the Media Gallery.
