Solo indie roguelite auto-battler ELbab appears on PC via Steam Early Access

makz, a solo developer from Japan, has released an early access version of their game, ELbab, on Steam for PC. This roguelite auto-battler is expected to stay in early access for approximately six months to a year.

This Early Access game builds on a free demo previously offered on itch.io. The creator, makz, explains that the core gameplay draws inspiration from both Slay the Spire and the Path of Building tool used for Path of Exile.

Although the Steam store page doesn’t state it, the game’s creator, makz, previously mentioned on Note and in an earlier demo on itch.io that they used AI tools to help with coding and to translate the game into English and Simplified Chinese.

You can find the official trailer, screenshots and descriptions for ELbab right below.

ELbab is a roguelite auto-battler set inside an endlessly expanding library.

Each run is designed to last 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.

The game combines exploring dungeons made of tiles with the satisfying experience of creating powerful character builds, similar to hack-and-slash games. Instead of directly controlling combat, you’ll focus on carefully planning and improving your build to succeed.

ELbab is designed for relaxed gameplay – it’s an auto-battler you control entirely with your mouse. This means you can enjoy the game while doing other things, like drinking coffee, watching videos, or even playing other games! You can also customize controls by assigning the ESC key to a mouse button for even more comfort.

The game is meant to be challenging, but because it’s still in early development – an alpha version created by a single developer – there aren’t many different types of enemies yet, and the game’s balance isn’t quite right. These things are still being worked on.
