Towards the end of 2025, Ariana Grande hosted the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live, appearing alongside the show’s season 51 cast. She charmed audiences with her funny opening monologue – a parody of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” – and a humorous sketch about an Elf on a Shelf support group. But the sketch I keep thinking about is a surprisingly dark and intense reimagining of the ending of Home Alone.
The ending of Home Alone (available on Disney+) is famously heartwarming, showing Kate McCallister returning home to a relieved Kevin, quickly followed by the rest of the family. However, Saturday Night Live offered a very different take on that scene. Their sketch replaces the joyful reunion with unexpectedly adult humor. You can watch it below, and it might just change how you see the Christmas classic forever.
That’s wild, right? One minute you’re enjoying Ariana Grande’s hilarious impression of Kevin McCallister, and the next you’re completely shocked to see his family members actually falling into his Home Alone traps! I really appreciated how the writers cleverly connected this SNL sketch to the Final Destination horror series with that unexpected twist. It definitely caught me by surprise.
Everyone was wondering if Kevin’s parents ever discovered he tried to rob their house. This funny sketch reveals what happened—and suggests an even bigger surprise awaits if they ever find his detailed blueprints for the booby traps he set up.
Let’s be honest, the traps Kevin set in Home Alone really hurt Harry and Marv. Getting burned by a blowtorch or stepping on nails isn’t a pleasant holiday experience! But, Kevin was on his own and needed to protect his home.

Peacock offers streaming entertainment starting at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. You can now stream content from Saturday Night Live on Peacock. They also have premium plans (Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus) that remove ads and let you download shows and movies to watch without an internet connection. See the deal here!
Re-watching Home Alone as an adult, it’s surprisingly more of a dark comedy than a lighthearted, slapstick film. One fan even rebuilt the traps from the movie, and the result was shockingly violent. This makes you wonder if it’s really as family-friendly as we remember.
I expected Saturday Night Live to do a sketch based on Home Alone because it’s so popular during the holidays, but I was surprised by how edgy it turned out. I really enjoyed seeing Kevin’s booby traps become incredibly over-the-top, almost like something from the Final Destination movies. It makes me wonder if SNL can even get more twisted with their parodies, but I’m excited to see them try. You can watch this dark and funny sketch, along with the rest of Ariana Grande’s recent SNL episode, on Peacock.
