
Later this year, a manga (Japanese comic book) will be released telling the life story of Masahiro Sakurai, the famous game designer known for creating Super Smash Bros. and Kirby.
According to Famitsu, a new 160-page book, personally overseen by Masahiro Sakurai, details his life and career. It starts with his childhood love of games and follows him through the making of both *Kirby* and *Super Smash Bros.*, sharing previously untold stories about how he creates games and the key moments in his career.
A new manga titled *Learn About People and Work Through Manga: Masahiro Sakurai – Making the World More Fun with Games* will be released by EastPress on November 18, 2025. It costs 1,430 yen (approximately $9 USD) and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon Japan and Rakuten Books.
Smash Bros. creator gets own manga
The book walks you through Masahiro Sakurai’s whole career, split into six parts. It starts with how Kirby came to be, then dives into the beginning of Smash Bros. From there, it covers how he started his own company, Sora Ltd., and how he continues to shape the games we play today. It’s a really cool look at everything he’s done!
The book also includes industry columns and a full Sakurai career timeline.

The six chapters are as follows:
- Chapter 1: “Boy Sakurai and Games”
- Chapter 2: “The Birth of Kirby of the Stars!”
- Chapter 3: “The Beginning of the Great Battle”
- Chapter 4: “Sora Limited Company Established!”
- Chapter 5: “Inheritance”

A new manga titled ‘Masahiro Sakurai – Making the World More Fun with Games,’ which explores the life and work of the famous game developer, will be available in Japan on November 18th. A digital version will also be released. Currently, there are no plans to release the manga outside of Japan.
