As a cinephile who has traversed the globe to uncover the hidden gems of cinema, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat upon hearing Hugo Weaving‘s latest announcements. His return as Frank Harkness in “Slow Horses” and potential reunion with Stephan Elliott for “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” sequel are undoubtedly exciting developments.
At the International Film Festival of India held in Goa, Hugo Weaving announced that he will once again play the character of Frank Harkness in the fifth season of “Slow Horses.” He plans to travel back to London in January for a filming period of approximately two and a half months.
Each season can be seen as a chapter in a book, yet each one slightly deviates from the script,” stated Weaving. “We’re reaching a stage with ‘Slow Horses’ where the seasons are starting to match the number of books that Mick Herron has penned.
The actor recently shared some news regarding the upcoming sequel to “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” from 1994. During a conversation with the director, Stephan Elliott, he mentioned that he’s been reading another script for it and has gone through around five drafts so far. He added that there’s a possibility the sequel might start filming next year, but there are still many details to iron out. Overall, things seem promising.
Although Ian McShane is internationally celebrated for his work on “The Matrix” series, in India, he is still predominantly recognized for his portrayal of England cricket captain Douglas Jardine in the 1984 TV series “Bodyline.” Reflecting on the impact of the show, McShane stated, “I’m aware of how significant ‘Bodyline’ was. It was a big deal in Australia as well.” He reminisced about the era, “Back then, you could air something on television, and nearly half the nation would tune in to watch that particular program. That doesn’t happen nowadays.” Jokingly referring to his character as a notorious figure in sports history, he remarked, “Jardine is likely one of the greatest villains in global sporting annals.
In Goa, “The Rooster,” an intense Australian thriller helmed by Mark Leonard Winter, was presented. His character in the movie is a recluse who could potentially provide clues regarding a corpse unearthed by a local police officer in a small town.
In Winter’s own words, “I wrote the character especially for the seasoned actor, Hugo, as working with him had always been my dream. Writing this role for him gave our project a sense of legitimacy and made people take notice.
Regarding his choice to be part of the project, Weaving expressed that he found the character “exceptionally appealing” and was drawn to the concept of the movie itself. He attributed his involvement to both Mark, the person, and Mark’s compelling writing style.
The movie was filmed at Winter’s residence in Victoria, Australia, which happens to be the primary focus of this year’s IFFI (International Film Festival of India). During the festival, both Winter and Weaving expressed enthusiasm about potential future partnerships with Indian filmmakers, with Weaving disclosing ongoing talks with Anand Gandhi. On a separate note, Winter mentioned that he has already drafted a script for his upcoming directorial project – a vampire movie.
