Skyblivion Mod Delayed to 2026 After 13 Years in Development

The ambitious mod Skyblivion, which rebuilds the game Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine, has been in development for 13 years. While Bethesda recently released Oblivion Remastered, Skyblivion is still a promising project that aims to enhance the original game with updated graphics and other improvements. Despite the long wait, the mod isn’t quite finished yet, according to the latest update.

The team behind Skyblivion announced that the game will now be released in 2026, later than the previously planned 2025 date. They explained that some final hurdles are taking longer to overcome than expected. While progress is being made on the Imperial City—with assets expected to be finished by the end of the year—work still needs to be done on quests and the game’s navigation system.

Skyblivion Has Big Plans For 2026 After Delay

Even though Skyblivion is expected to launch in 2026 after more than ten years in development, the team is already thinking about what comes next. Fixing bugs will be the main focus after release, but they also have plans to add more content and features.

  • Spellcrafting
  • UI reskin
  • Dynamic dungeons
  • Grave robbing
  • Creature variety
  • More followers
  • More unique items
  • More spells
  • Oblivion DLCs

As a big fan of Oblivion, I was really excited to hear Skyblivion was going to include spellcrafting – it was such a key part of the original game! Sadly, the team ran into some serious issues while building it, and the system just stopped working as they continued development. It’s going to take a lot of work to get it running again, especially since Skyrim didn’t have anything similar to build on. It’s a tough challenge, but I’m hoping they can bring it back!

To release the mod quickly, we’ve had to make some similar trade-offs. For instance, the user interface is now much more like the one in Skyrim than we initially intended, but we plan to improve it in a future update.

Skyblivion Is Still An Exciting Project

While there’s still a possibility of setbacks, it looks like the Skyblivion project is almost finished. It’s a remarkably ambitious effort, and the release of Oblivion Remastered hasn’t diminished its appeal. Skyblivion offers more significant changes, and many believe its artistic style is more captivating than the polished look of Oblivion Remastered in Unreal Engine 5.

The team behind Skyblivion is aiming to finish the last major features by early 2026, with plans for testing before the mod is released. While the current schedule suggests it won’t be available in the very beginning of 2026, things could move quickly if development goes well, meaning the Skyrim overhaul might be released sooner than expected.
