Skyblivion Is Delayed To 2026, But It Already Looks Very Good

For over ten years, a team of dedicated fans has been working on Skyblivion – a complete remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the game engine from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Originally aiming for a 2025 release, the project has been delayed until next year. However, a recent development video highlights the significant progress made and outlines the remaining tasks.

Skyblivion’s lead, Rebelzize, recently provided an update on the mod’s progress. He explained that the majority of the work is complete, and a dedicated team of over 70 volunteers continues to push towards its release.

When the Skyblivion project began, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was quite old. Bethesda recently released Oblivion Remastered, which could have overshadowed the team’s work. However, Rebelzize and others saw the remaster as a positive development for the entire community. As a thank you for their efforts, Bethesda provided the entire Skyblivion mod team with copies of Oblivion Remastered.

Team Skyblivion hasn’t had a completely smooth development process. A former team member recently voiced concerns about pressure to release the mod before it was fully polished. While Skyblivion is looking great, it’s a volunteer project, and this individual disagreed with the intense, demanding work schedule that was causing problems.

Currently, Skyblivion appears to be shaping up nicely and worth the anticipation. It’s important to note that while Bethesda provides limited mod support on consoles, Skyblivion will only be released for PC. To play, you’ll need to own both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
