Singapore’s version of the popular South Korean game show, “I Can See Your Voice,” enlists viewers to join in and unravel a musical puzzle with some of Singapore’s favorite celebrities as they guide you through the process.

The program features Benjamin Kheng, Gurmit Singh, Najip Ali, and Xixi Lim as its in-house celebrity investigators who either aid or confuse the contestants when making choices.

I’ve recently discovered a captivating series that represents the newest chapter in a global phenomenon, tracing its roots back to South Korea. This franchise has been ingeniously adapted across more than 30 nations, including the United States, United Kingdom, Thailand, and the Philippines, just to name a few. The unique blend of deduction and performance has struck a chord with viewers globally, with each nation subtly modifying the concept to suit their distinct cultural nuances. I find myself utterly fascinated by its universal appeal.

The program is led by Joakim Gomez and Munah Bagharib, two experienced entertainers in the Singapore entertainment industry. Gomez gained popularity as a finalist on Singapore Idol back in 2006 and currently works as a radio personality at Mediacorp 987. On the other hand, Bagharib is recognized for her acting and hosting roles, as well as her work promoting mental health awareness and dementia education.

Kheng, recognized for his work with The Sam Willows and as a solo artist, states, “We’re presented with hints, a lip-sync test, chances for interrogation, and more. My role is to provide either genuine or misleading feedback to the celebrity competitors about whether I believe the mystery singers are talented or not.

Singh, renowned for his memorable portrayal of Phua Chu Kang in the sitcom “Phu Chu Kang Pte Ltd,” boasts decades of expertise in comedy and hosting. He compares the experience to a musical adaptation of “Clue,” where hints can sometimes be useful but other times are utterly nonsensical. Reminiscing about his partnership with Ali, Singh shares, “Najip and I have been acquainted for quite some time, but it was only recently that we acted together. Our first joint project was the English longform drama ‘Sunny Side Up,’ and we found the experience incredibly enjoyable. In ‘I Can See Your Voice,’ we really cut loose and had a fantastic time. So much so that the producers had to ensure we didn’t sit next to each other because we were causing too much mischief, constantly joking and poking fun at one another.

Ali, a seasoned entertainer with four decades of experience in regional entertainment, adopts a more critical perspective. “Being a resident celebrity detective, my role is to distinguish the talented singers from those less skilled. I will be evaluating each performance and offering suggestions to help the contestants identify the good singers from the not-so-good ones. However, my feedback may sometimes add complexity as they might disagree with my assessments,” he explains. Notably, Ali is renowned for his work in hosting and producing successful shows such as “Asia Bagus” and “Berani Nyanyi?”.

Completing our lineup is Xixi Lim, a well-known actress, model, and vocalist who has earned acclaim for her exceptional comedic skills and her dedication to promoting body positivity.

Starting January 13th, ‘I Can See Your Voice’ will make its debut every Monday on Channel 5. You can catch up on the episodes later on mewatch and YouTube. In each episode, the final mystery singer takes home SG$10,000 ($7,300), and all winners have a chance to win a Nissan Leaf car.
