After being hinted at since 2022, Konami recently showed a proper gameplay reveal of Silent Hill: Townfall during the latest State of Play presentation. This new Silent Hill game is being developed in collaboration with Annapurna Interactive and the indie team at Screen Burn. Despite significant changes and departures within Annapurna Interactive in 2024, development on Silent Hill: Townfall seems to be progressing well.
Similar to Silent Hill f, Townfall is moving the series to a new location – Scotland, instead of rural Japan. While many details about the game’s story are still unknown, it appears to be a promising addition to the franchise after a long period without a new release.
Silent Hill: Townfall Release Window & Platforms
Currently, Silent Hill: Townfall is expected to come out in 2026, but we don’t have a firm release date yet. Given the limited information available, a launch in the very near future seems unlikely.
Given the positive reception to Silent Hill f, Townfall could be released in late September to coincide with Halloween. If it follows a similar schedule to previous releases, we might hear about the official release date this summer. Right now, though, anything before 2026 is just guesswork.
Silent Hill: Townfall will be available on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
Silent Hill: Townfall Trailer
The trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall, shown at the State of Play event, centers on the main character, Simon Ordell, and his return to the famously foggy town of St. Amelia. Although the trailer is mostly cinematic, it confirms at the beginning that all footage was captured on PlayStation 5, and it ends with a short look at some gameplay from a first-person perspective.
The scene closes with red waves pulling back from the shore, revealing the Silent Hill: Townfall logo – the same image shown in the first teaser released in 2022.
Silent Hill: Townfall Gameplay Details
As a long-time Silent Hill fan, I’m really intrigued by the biggest change in Silent Hill: Townfall – it’s played entirely from the first-person perspective! We’ve seen bits and pieces of first-person gameplay before, like in Silent Hill 4: The Room and that super creepy Playable Teaser demo Kojima put out. While Townfall doesn’t seem to be trying to be P.T., this first-person view could really draw fans in and make it stand out.
Unlike Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall will feature firearms, with gameplay showing Simon using a revolver against enemies. Staying true to the Silent Hill series, players will also be able to fight using improvised weapons like boards and pipes. The PlayStation version of the game will utilize the DualSense controller’s unique features during combat.
A recent PlayStation Blog post highlights the importance of strategic avoidance – sometimes the best way to survive is to not engage in every fight. The post also confirms the game will feature story-based puzzles, continuing a long-standing tradition of the series that blends action with brain-teasing challenges.
I was really excited watching the new Silent Hill stream! One of the things that stood out to me is how much more they’re emphasizing stealth this time around. You play as Simon, and he can actually peek around corners and over things to check where enemies are. Plus, his handheld CRTV – it’s like a modern take on the classic radio – doesn’t just show you nearby dangers, it might even give you clues! It feels like a really smart way to add to the tension and atmosphere.
Silent Hill: Townfall Story Details
In Silent Hill: Townfall, Simon Ordell returns to St. Amelia Island with the goal of resolving past issues, though the specifics of his connection to the island remain a mystery. The game begins with him arriving at a dock and entering town, where handmade signs suggest a troubled history and a significant past event. According to writer and director Jon McKellan, unraveling the game’s mysteries will be central to the experience, with both subtle clues and major discoveries awaiting players.
Guilt is a central idea in the Silent Hill series, and it seems this new installment will explore that theme as well. We don’t yet know the details of the main character, Simon’s, past, but it will likely be connected to this guilt, and probably lead to a difficult personal confrontation as the story progresses.
The game Silent Hill: Townfall draws heavily from the landscapes of Scotland, and the recent showcase featured the Scottish towns that served as inspiration. Specifically, the coastal fog known as “haar” proved ideal for capturing the eerie atmosphere of Silent Hill.
We’ll likely learn more about Silent Hill: Townfall later this year, but early signs suggest it’s a great addition to the series. Silent Hill f showed that the series can work well in new locations, and St. Valentine still captures that classic, eerie, isolated feeling. Hopefully, the developers at Screen Burn can create another successful game for this legendary horror franchise.
