The Silent Hill series is proving its continued strength as a major survival-horror franchise. Recent successes like the highly praised Silent Hill 2 remake (released in 2024 by Bloober Team) and the new game, Silent Hill F, are key to this. Konami first revealed both games, along with an interactive streaming experience called Silent Hill Townfall, back in 2022. Series producer Motoi Okamoto explained that this announcement was a planned effort to demonstrate Konami’s dedication to bringing Silent Hill back to life for its fans.
In a recent social media post, Okamoto explained that back in 2022, they revealed three Silent Hill projects—Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill F, and Silent Hill: Townfall—all at once. They didn’t want to just announce one remake as a trial run. Instead, they aimed to demonstrate their strong commitment to bringing the series back. Developing both a remake and a brand new game at the same time was risky, but they wanted to show they were serious. Okamoto believes that announcing a new game is the first step in securing a series’ future.
As a fan, I totally get what Okamoto-san is saying! He thinks if a company seems hesitant about a new game in a series I love, I probably won’t bother trying it. It really comes down to them showing they’re serious about the game – that’s what will get me, and other fans, excited and willing to jump in.
Both Silent Hill 2 and the upcoming Silent Hill F have received praise from critics, and the series isn’t stopping there. Bloober Team, known for Cronos: The New Dawn, is currently remaking the original Silent Hill game. Plus, a live-action movie based on Silent Hill 2, titled Return to Silent Hill, is set to be released in theaters on January 23, 2026.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can now play Silent Hill 2 – check it out if you haven’t already!
