After some delays, Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider TV series is moving forward with Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, as the main character. Recent news indicates that Sigourney Weaver, a celebrated sci-fi actress, is being considered for a part in the show.
According to Deadline, Emilia Clarke is being considered for a part in the new Tomb Raider TV series, but negotiations are still ongoing and it’s not yet confirmed. The specific character she might play hasn’t been revealed.
I’ve been a fan of Sigourney Weaver for ages! She’s been in so many amazing franchises – of course, everyone remembers her as Ripley in the Alien movies, but she’s also fantastic in James Cameron’s Avatar films. And it’s so cool that Avatar: Fire And Ash is coming out on December 19th! But get this – she’s even joining the Star Wars universe with a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu next year. Seriously, she’s everywhere, and I can’t wait to see what she does next!
The new Tomb Raider series coming to Amazon is being made by Story Kitchen, the team behind the animated Tomb Raider show on Netflix and several other video game adaptations. They’re working with Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, who are also executive producers. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for Fleabag, is writing and executive producing the show.
British actor Martin Bobb-Semple is also said to be joining the series as a regular cast member, along with Sophie Turner. Details about his character haven’t been released yet.
Tomb Raider fans have something to look forward to at The Game Awards this Thursday, December 11th. Host Geoff Keighley hinted that the show will include news about the future of the Tomb Raider series, one of the most famous in gaming history.
