Shudder Partners With Arrow on Limited-Edition Physical Releases, Including ‘Hellbender,’ ‘The Sadness’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Shudder is partnering with Arrow Video to bring several of its movies to physical media.

A horror-focused streaming platform has agreed to collaborate with a U.K. media company for special, one-time physical editions of eight chilling films from their extensive collection. The upcoming titles include: Ole Bornedal’s “Nightwatch” (1994), Rob Jabbaz’s “The Sadness” (2021), Joseph Winter and Vanessa Winter’s “Deadstream” (2022), Christian Tafdrup’s “Speak No Evil” (2022), Michelle Garza Cervera’s “Huesera: The Bone Woman” (2022), the Adams family’s “Hellbender” (2021), a sequel to Bornedal’s “Nightwatch” titled “Nightwatch: Damons Are Forever” (2023) and Jennifer Reeder’s “Perpetrator” (2023).

In the United States, only one film titled “Hellbender” is getting a exclusive release. Meanwhile, three films – “Nightwatch”, “Demons Are Forever”, and “Perpetrator” – are coming out simultaneously in both the U.S. and the U.K., while the rest of the movies are currently only available in the U.K. All these films will be released in limited-edition Blu-ray sets, with an added 4K release for “The Sadness”. Although official release dates haven’t been set yet, Arrow has announced that its initial collaborative projects with Shudder will premiere during the summer of 2025.

Sam Zimmerman, Shudder’s vice president of programming, expressed his pleasure and honor in a statement about Arrow’s renowned work being a regular feature on our shelves. The excitement grows as we witness Shudder films receiving special treatment. Dean Lawson, the sales and marketing director at Arrow, hinted that this deal builds upon an earlier partnership they established. He further stated that it will be exciting to present a collection of their Original productions on physical media in 2025, following years of working with AMC team licensing numerous films from Arrow Video for the esteemed Shudder platform.

Arrow Films stands out as one of the world’s leading, prestigious independent companies specializing in physical media. Despite a potential decline in the Blu-ray and 4K disc market, their extensive library remains impressive. This collection spans various genres, from classic giallo films like “Don’t Torture a Duckling,” to popular ’80s and ’90s releases such as “Sixteen Candles” and “Demolition Man,” to contemporary independent genre movies like Mary Dauterman’s “Booger” and D.W Medoff’s “I Will Never Leave You Alone.” Each title is meticulously adapted to the latest technology, presented with stunning artwork (much of it unique) and a wealth of bonus content.

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but sing the praises of Shudder, the brilliant offshoot from AMC Networks. This platform isn’t just about delivering contemporary genre programming; it’s a treasure trove that meticulously curates repertory content from the global history of horror.

Each year, they release approximately 30 films, and their contributions extend far beyond that. They’ve been instrumental in developing and distributing an impressive array of groundbreaking and critically acclaimed titles. Titles like Jayro Bustamante’s Golden Globe-nominated “La Llorona,” Phil Tippett’s long-awaited masterpiece “Mad God,” Coralie Fargeat’s debut feature “Revenge,” Kyle Edward Ball’s cult sensation “Skinamarink,” Chris Nash’s “In a Violent Nature,” Colin and Cameron Cairnes’ “Late Night With the Devil” – these are just a few examples of their remarkable portfolio.
