Popular Twitch streamer Mike ‘shroud’ Grzesiek thinks there should be different ‘Game of the Year’ awards for single-player and multiplayer titles, pointing to the recent popularity of Arc Raiders as a reason.
As 2025 comes to a close, people are already thinking about what 2026 will bring. But first, we’ll be recognizing achievements from the past year with a series of awards.
Popular streamer shroud has sparked debate about Game of the Year awards, suggesting Arc Raiders deserves the win over Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
I remember reading his post back on November 5th, and it really resonated with me. He was trying to get all of us multiplayer fans – we’re a smaller group, but passionate – to really push for this game to succeed. He basically said we need to work together if we want to see it win, and honestly, I think he’s right!
He now suggests creating two separate award categories: one for games played solo, and another specifically to recognize multiplayer games, believing this will give multiplayer titles more attention.
Shroud throws more weight behind Arc Raiders as GOTY
The former Counter-Strike player believes Game of the Year awards should be split into two categories: one for single-player games and one for multiplayer games. They argue it doesn’t make sense to compare these different types of games, as single-player games tend to dominate the awards. In fact, they point out that a multiplayer game hasn’t won since 2016.
As a big fan, I was really interested to hear this streamer say that co-op games like It Takes Two and Split Fiction feel totally different than just regular multiplayer games. They think co-op deserves its own space and recognition, and I totally agree!
He explained that most cooperative games can also be enjoyed solo, but It Takes Two is unique because it absolutely requires two players to play together.

Grzesiek criticized the tendency for single-player games to win most awards, calling it unfair. He stated, “Single-player games consistently take Game of the Year, and that’s just not right.”
The popular former Counter-Strike player often features multiplayer games on his Twitch channel, and he’s currently really into Arc Raiders. He plans to support the game whenever he can, but it’s still uncertain if his suggestions will be implemented.
