The upcoming Shrek 5 has added a star from the 2025 Superman movie to its cast. The actor will voice Farkle, one of Shrek and Fiona’s grown-up sons. Twenty-five years after the first Shrek film became a hit, the fifth movie will feature Shrek and Fiona’s children as adults, and fans are already speculating about the story. While details about the plot are still secret, the new casting announcement is building anticipation for the film.
Skylar Gisondo, known for playing Superman, is joining the voice cast of the upcoming Shrek 5 movie, Universal Studios has confirmed. The news was revealed by Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb of NBC during the live broadcast of the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, coinciding with the appearance of the Shrek float, which also gave viewers a first look at Shrek’s now-grown children.

Gisondo is joining the cast of Shrek 5 as Farkle, Shrek’s son, who will be introduced as a teenager. He recently gained recognition for his role as Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn’s Superman movie for Warner Bros. and DC Studios.

Guthrie and Kotb also revealed that Marcello Hernandez will be joining the cast alongside Gisondo. Hernandez is a comedian known from Saturday Night Live, and he first appeared in a film in 2025 with Happy Gilmore 2.

Hernandez will be the voice of Fergus, one of Shrek’s sons, who first appeared in the movie Shrek the Third back in 2007, along with Farkle.

After the announcement at the parade, Hernandez shared the exciting news on Instagram. He posted several pictures of himself dressed as Shrek, including full green makeup on his face and arms. The final photo featured him and Gisondo, both in Shrek-themed attire—Hernandez in the full costume and Gisondo wearing a Shrek baseball cap—with their character names displayed below.

Shrek 5 is the next installment in the popular Shrek movie series, marking the first new film in over a decade since 2010’s Shrek Forever After. The movie will once again feature the voices of Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and will explore their lives as parents. Fans can expect Shrek 5 to hit theaters on June 30, 2027.
What to Expect From Shrek’s Kids in Shrek 5

With talented actors like Zendaya (known from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Dune) voicing Shrek’s children, Universal Pictures is likely hoping these characters will quickly become popular with fans. Jon Gisondo is also poised for success, having previously gained attention for his memorable role as Jimmy Olsen in Superman, and is now bringing his skills to voice acting.
The next Shrek movie will be a turning point for the series, introducing Shrek and Fiona’s teenage triplets as fully developed characters. The film will likely focus on the triplets’ relationships with each other as they navigate being young ogres, and how Shrek and Fiona help them understand the magical world they live in, all while facing new challenges.
Gisondo, Hernandez, and Zendaya are joining the cast, bringing fresh energy to this popular series. They’ll be working alongside returning favorites like Myers, Diaz, and Murphy, adding their own unique talents to the story.
The combination of different generations of characters will create unexpected moments in the story. Universal Pictures is hoping this will encourage both longtime fans and new audiences to enjoy Shrek again after over ten years.
