The TV series ‘Shogun’ is inching towards a fresh season. Following its triumphant sweep of awards at the 2025 Golden Globes – claiming the prize for best drama series and garnering three acting honors – the creative minds behind ‘Shogun’ are hard at work, plotting where the storyline will head next.

Rachel Kondo, executive producer and creator, shared that ‘it’s a continuous effort,’ emphasizing they haven’t abandoned hope. However, she’s unsure about disclosing more details at the moment. Justin Marks, her husband and fellow exec producer/creator, mentioned they are approximately six weeks away from concluding their writing sessions.

Marks has just secured a fresh overall agreement with FX Productions, under which he will create upcoming productions for FX Networks, such as possible new installments of “Shogun” in collaboration with Kondo. The potential sequels to the series are being developed jointly with Clavell’s estate.

On Sunday, the drama categories were dominated by “Shpgun”, with the show taking home several awards: Best Drama Series, Hiroyuki Sanada as Best TV Drama Actor, Anna Sawai as Best TV Drama Actress, and Setadanobu Asano for Best TV Supporting Actor.

Or, more concisely:

“Shpgun” cleaned up the drama categories on Sunday, winning Best Drama Series, Hiroyuki Sanada for Best TV Drama Actor, Anna Sawai for Best TV Drama Actress, and Setadanobu Asano for Best TV Supporting Actor.

In September, the show achieved an unprecedented feat by earning 18 Emmy Awards, making it the series with the highest number of awards won in one season. This impressive tally included victories for the Best Drama Series category, as well as recognition for Hiroyuki Sanada as the Best Actor in a Drama Series and Anna Sawai as the Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Initially conceived as a limited series, “Shogun” gained popularity and recognition, leading FX to contemplate transforming it into an ongoing series. In May, lead actor and producer Hiroyuki Sanada sealed a deal with FX to reprise his role as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the Japan-based historical saga. Later, FX entered “Shogun” into the drama category for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

By the end of May, it emerged that a team of writers started working over the summer to create additional seasons for the series, although FX has not officially confirmed its renewal yet.
