The official trailer for Hugh Jackman’s new movie, The Sheep Detectives, is now available! This unique murder mystery is told from the hilarious perspective of a flock of sheep. Based on Leonie Swann’s novel Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story, the film boasts a talented voice cast and promises a funny and engaging story as the sheep investigate the death of their shepherd.
Hugh Jackman has been the face of the film’s promotion, but his character doesn’t appear to have a long role – the story begins with his murder. The newest trailer reveals Jackman’s character enjoyed reading mysteries to his sheep, which explains why they’re so determined to solve his death. The film also boasts a talented cast including Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon, and Hong Chau.
What sets The Sheep Detectives apart is that the investigation is led by… sheep! The trailer centers around Lily, a Shetland sheep voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who believes George Hardy (played by Jackman) didn’t die of natural causes. She’s joined by a fantastic voice cast including Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein, and Rhys Darby, all playing different sheep. Their combined comedic talents shine through as these fluffy detectives stumble their way through a hilarious mystery.
I just watched the new trailer for Sheep Detectives, and it’s brilliantly done! It expertly keeps you guessing, never giving away too much, and the whole thing is genuinely funny. They’ve set it to Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” which is a fantastic choice. This trailer really sells the idea of a hilarious and unpredictable mystery – and it’s clever, too, playfully poking fun at the detective genre itself, since the story is based on classic ‘whodunit’ novels. Honestly, it’s got me really excited for this film, which is coming out over Mother’s Day weekend.
Kyle Balda, the director known for the first two Minions films and Despicable Me 3, helmed Sheep Detectives. The screenplay comes from Craig Mazin, who recently gained acclaim for the dramatic HBO series Chernobyl and The Last of Us (with a third season of the latter on the way). It will be fascinating to see how closely the movie follows the original story, whether the mystery and characters are altered, and if the film maintains the sheep’s insightful observations about people.
