Fifteen years after it first aired, the show about the Gallagher family is now a popular streaming success. The series, which follows a troubled family in Chicago’s South Side, received four Emmy Awards over its eleven seasons.
Shameless, Showtime’s longest-running scripted series, is currently the second most popular show on the Apple TV store, according to FlixPatrol. The show originally debuted in 2011 and concluded in 2021 during the pandemic.
William H. Macy played the role of Frank Gallagher, the often-drunk father of six, in the show Shameless. The series also featured Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, and Steve Howey. Both critics and audiences have given Shameless a high rating, with an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
As a big TV fan, I always love seeing American adaptations of great British shows, and Shameless is a perfect example. It’s based on the original series by Paul Abbott, and he was involved in the US version alongside John Wells. What’s really cool is watching the cast move on to bigger things – Jeremy Allen White, who played Lip in Shameless, has become a huge star! He’s the lead in The Bear now, and he’s already won two Emmy Awards for his performance as Carmy. It’s awesome to see talent like that get the recognition it deserves.
Shanola Hampton isn’t the only former Shameless cast member to lead her own TV show. She starred in a series alongside Mark-Paul Gosselaar, but unfortunately, it was canceled after just two seasons.
Shameless Star Will Lead a New Bosch Prequel Series
Cameron Monaghan, known for his role as Ian Gallagher in Shameless, also appeared in multiple episodes of the Fox series Gotham. More recently, in October 2025, he starred in the spinoff Bosch: Start of Watch, which will be available on MGM+.
Paul Monaghan will be acting in the series with Omari Hardwick, who plays his trainer, Eli Bridges. Filming for Start of Watch is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2026.
I was so excited when they announced Monaghan was cast! Michael Wright, the head of MGM+, said they were really happy to be adding to the Bosch world with this story about how Harry became the detective we all love. It’s going to be amazing to see his origins!
Wright stated that Bosch: Start of Watch will continue the series’ tradition of realistic, compelling storytelling, thanks to the performances of Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick, and the creative leadership of Michael Connelly and the show’s producers. He believes it will both honor the original series and launch a fresh, exciting direction.
You can watch Shameless on Apple TV in the US, as well as through streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, Plex, and The Roku Channel.
