Severance’s Exports Hall Unveiled: The Key to Lumon’s Darkest Secrets!

In Episode 5 of Severance Season 2 titled ‘Trojan’s Horse’, we get a closer look at the mysterious Exports Hall, which could potentially uncover the hidden past of Lumon Industries.

One fact that’s clear: Season 2 won’t provide all the solutions. In fact, work is underway for the third installment of the Apple TV+ series, and director Ben Stiller hinted at even more revelations ahead.

In the most recent series, we’ve seen a number of fresh revelations, one of which was disclosed in Season 2, Episode 3. During this episode, it was revealed by Felicia from the O&D department to Irving that the area known as the Testing Floor is, in fact, referred to as the Exports Hall.

After the catastrophic ORTBO incident of the previous week, Episode 5 begins by showing us the new character who has been assigned the task of transporting items to the lower level. Beware: potential spoilers lie ahead!

What is the Exports Hall?

The Exports Hall, alternatively referred to as the Testing Floor, lies within Lumon Industries’ headquarters in Kier, located beneath the Severed Floor. It’s suggested that this area serves as a place for specific employees to undergo some form of adjustment or realignment, although this detail has yet to be definitively established.

In Season 1, Ms. Casey is dispatched by Ms. Cobel, who instructs Milchick, “Could you kindly escort her back to the Testing Floor?” As we watch, Ms. Casey proceeds along a long, dimly lit passageway and eventually reaches an elevator that displays a downward-facing red arrow.

This corridor is consistently painted by Irving, and some people see this as a recurring memory that seeped from his Inner self to his Outer self. Maybe he continues to paint it to prevent forgetting.

In the third episode of Season 2, it’s disclosed that Irving has a similar habit towards Burt. During his visit to Felicia in the O&D department, he displays a notebook filled with numerous sketches of Burt.

He mentions that he sketches something each day without seeing Burt specifically, and Felicia finds a picture among them that isn’t of Burt. Instead, it’s a drawing of the Testing Floor, which she recognizes as one of Burt’s paintings from the Overtime Contingency Protocol.

Her questioning him, “How did you learn about the Export Hall?… We’ve been sending a lot of freight there. Used to go ourselves, but now they send someone instead.” Then he inquires, “Do you recall where it’s located?

Although the scene changes before she can answer, it seems she did spill the beans after all.

In the heart of Severance Season 2, I find myself gazing upon the grand entrance of Exports Hall once more in Episode 5. The scene opens with the individual Felicia referred to, strolling along the gleaming, severed floors, pushing a cart and humming a tune as he goes.

He arrives at the O&D department, finding Felicia and the lady from Season 1 already there. As he moves across the office, a strategically positioned bookshelf conceals his identity.

He inquires from the workers if they possess it, and upon receiving a positive response, they offer him a tray filled with items that appear to be dental instruments. Grateful for their assistance, he carries the tray towards the hallway and proceeds into the Exports Hall.

As the episode progresses, Dylan discovers a map concealed behind the ‘Keep Hanging On’ motivational poster in the break room. This is reminiscent of Irving’s parting advice to him in Episode 4: “Just hold on, buddy.

The map provided is essentially an identical drawing of the Exports Hall, accompanied by instructions for reaching the location. Therefore, though we’re unsure about the happenings within, it appears that the Insiders are more near than ever to uncovering the truth.

Exports Hall theories

Indeed, it’s been proposed that Lumon might be trying to create clones, and some speculate this includes Kier Egan for eternal life. A fan on X/Twitter puts it as follows: “It seems the former employees are constructing a clone of Kier Egan so he can live forever.

“MDR manages his cognitive abilities, as the goats here are genetically identical copies, or clones. Miss Casey/Gemma was created on the ‘experimentation level’, a clone herself, and Optics constructs scientific instruments in the ‘Export Hall’.

The clone theory was debunked by Adam Scott and the cast prior to the start of Season 2, so there’s no longer any question about it being true.

Some people think this might serve as a place where Inner Beings undergo a complete overhaul of their personality, while others speculate that Outer and Dusters possess more information than they’re revealing.

On Reddit, someone posted, “Apologies if this idea has previously been shared, but it struck me while viewing Season 2 Episode 3.

It appears to me that O&D may be more secretive than previously assumed, and they seem to be well aware of this. I believe there is a strong possibility that O&D has a direct connection with the testing facility, Ms. Casey, and those who are shown on Petey’s map as potentially residing here.

I’m not quite there yet in understanding all the details, but my guess is that the person being sent now is Milchick since it’s him who usually sends Ms. Casey to the test area.

In Episode 5, it’s clear that Milchick isn’t the one revealing secrets. What’s undeniable is that the Exports Hall holds the key to uncovering Lumon’s truth, and it seems like the Innies are getting closer to unraveling it all.
