Severance Heads Back Into the Office for Season Two

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for psychological thrillers and a soft spot for corporate satire, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the return of Apple TV+’s hit series, Severance. Having binge-watched the first season multiple times, I can confidently say that the cliffhanger at the end left me with more questions than answers – much like my own life sometimes!

Apart from anything more chilling, Lumon Industries – the enigmatic corporation central to Apple TV+’s hit show “Severance” – might be matched only by the uncertainty that hangs over after the season one finale. Filming for the remaining half of the second season resumed earlier this year, following a 1.5-year gap since initial photography in October 2022. The production halted due to writers and actors strikes, but Ben Stiller, reprising his roles as executive producer and director, shared the good news on January 29, posting “Back to work” along with an exclusive image of Adam Scott sprinting through Lumon’s offices.

In a statement in 2022, Stiller expressed great joy and excitement to be back filming the second season of “Severance.” He admitted that he’s unsure about how long they’ve been away or who they are outside their roles, but he’s pleased to know people enjoy the series. Stiller even joked about a potential three-way involving Balaban’s character, Burt, and Irving. The latest office news at Lumon includes updates on first-look details, the new staff directory, a pitch for the trailer, and an invitation for the premiere of “Severance” season two.

Is a trailer included in the meeting minutes?

The trailer for Severance‘s second season leaves us puzzled with more mysteries than solutions, as it appears Lumon is the focus of our discussions. The innie counterparts have gained fame in the outtie-verse and seem to be avoiding trouble, or so they believe initially. Mark poses a question, “If we let this happen to Ms. Casey, who will protect us when it happens to us?”, trying to mobilize the innies to confront the higher-ups. Will he make it to the next meeting? We’re still analyzing the information for that.

What’s the dress code?

Business thriller. The foreboding first-look image clocked in on June 10 with the promise of a psychological second season. We see a frowning Adam Scott marching down a clinical hallway carrying balloons decorated with a picture of his smiling face. Talk about dissonance! That same day, Apple TV+ released a coming-soon reel for all its upcoming programming. It includes additional footage of Scott lying flat on a conference table at the show’s ethically challenged biotech company multiple times, the events seemingly flashing through his mind like a revelation. He then runs through a blindingly white labyrinth lit by the piercing florescent office lights.

Who’s getting hired?

For the upcoming season two, we’ve welcomed eight fresh faces to our cast, including Alia Shawkat from “Search Party,” Gwendoline Christie known for her role in “Game of Thrones,” and Merritt Wever starring in “Unbelievable.” Other newcomers include Bob Balaban, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannate, John Noble, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

When’s the orientation?

Apple TV+ unveiled a sneak peek on July 10th, and here’s the major announcement: The series Severance will return on January 17, 2025. For those who are keeping count, that means it’ll be almost three years since season one debuted in February 2022. Although the teaser didn’t offer many details, we do have a clue – Mark and Helly find themselves back at Lumon offices as Gwendoline Christie (with dark hair) cryptically states, “You should have left.” However, the goats in the scene have us puzzled! Remember the goats, Apple TV+ fans!
