While there’s no confirmed release date for Severance Season 3, creator Dan Erickson suggests the extra time is a good thing. He’s currently writing the new season and promises it will be even more surprising and revealing than the first two, exceeding the twists viewers have already experienced.
Erickson made this reveal while speaking with Us Weekly:
When we finished writing Season 2, especially the ending, I knew it would be really divisive. I predicted a strong reaction – some people would be angry, others thrilled, and everyone would be talking about it. I felt that same intensity while writing a few other important scenes in Season 2. But I’ve experienced that feeling even more often while working on Season 3 than I did with the previous seasons.
He expects the show will have many surprising and controversial moments, and believes it will maintain the quirky and humorous style that fans have come to enjoy.
Expanding the World of ‘Severance’

Apple TV
The first season of Severance mainly followed the story of Adam Scott’s character, Mark, both his work self (‘Innie’) and outside-of-work self (‘Outie’). While other characters played a role in Mark’s story, the second season began to develop their own, separate storylines. According to creator Dan Erickson, this will continue in Season 3, giving these supporting characters even more focus.
Season 2 started to explore the characters’ lives outside of work, and we’re continuing to do that. But really, at its heart, this is a story about a close-knit group of people who feel like family, and how they rely on each other to get through a really tough work environment. We want to keep developing that core relationship and showing how they support each other.
In Season 1, Britt Lower’s character, Helly R, and Tramell Tillman’s Seth Milchick played important roles. However, Season 2 revealed just how central they were to the show’s larger story. Giving them more to do not only improved the narrative, but also led to Emmy Awards: Lower won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and Tillman for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Severance fans are eagerly awaiting Season 3, and their biggest wish is that it doesn’t take as long to arrive as Season 2 did. There was a three-year gap between the first and second seasons – Season 1 came out in early 2022, and Season 2 in early 2025. However, with filming for Season 3 scheduled to begin this spring, fans are hoping for a shorter, two-year wait this time around.
