Just when things seemed calm for the group in Selling the OC, a major crisis hits – the wildfires. We knew from the start of the season these would be a focus, and the show’s handling of them feels surprisingly clumsy. The entire premise revolves around wealth and possessions, so seeing these characters react to a disaster where people have lost everything feels forced. It’s like watching someone try to solve a big problem with very limited tools. Their attempts at generosity, like not taking commission on rentals or donating things like hair dryers and high heels, feel incredibly small and self-serving – clearly meant to draw attention back to the show itself. However, these episodes are strangely captivating. The conflict between the characters’ materialistic values and the devastation around them has led to a lot of drama and drinking, and it looks like another major feud is brewing.
Chrishell is now leading the show and clearly enjoying her new role. She’s in a unique position to handle the drama because, unlike her colleagues, she’s genuinely relatable and comes from a modest background – she’s even described her upbringing as being at a “different price point.” Having personally experienced hardship, like losing her home in a fire, she connects with the clients brought on the show to share their difficult stories, even as everyone tries to appear sympathetic for the cameras. At a time when the O Group’s reputation is struggling, Chrishell is working to reshape public perception, presenting their wealth as earned through good character rather than simply a result of a flawed system.
I almost feel bad for Blake. He and Emma have been dating for nearly a year, and I learned so much about him that my partner was worried about my reactions! But Chrishell is trying to point out that he relies entirely on his family’s money, as he doesn’t work. He’s essentially taking advantage of the system – he’ll send a private jet just to avoid traveling, got a tattoo of Emma’s name, and even bought a boat. It’s ironic that wealthy people fight taxes meant to share wealth, because while some inheritances create productive people like Anderson Cooper, many others create people like Blake, who lack any real drive or purpose. He was born into privilege with nowhere to go but down. He probably spends his days ordering fast food and playing video games, seeking instant gratification by messaging girls online just to feel something. It’s a far cry from the days when wealthy people invested in things like opera houses.
Emma is justifying her questionable choices by saying she simply wants to be loved, but it’s clear she really wants to have children and feels the pressure of being in her thirties. It’s a common mistake, and surprisingly, her divorced friends aren’t able to dissuade her. This is causing real tension between Emma and Chrishell, which is worrying. I’m concerned that Chrishell, now that she’s become a central figure, is only going to face more and more difficulties.
Mary was robbed, and it’s been a really difficult time for her. The thieves left her dog, Thor, frightened and alone. While thankfully no one was physically hurt, Mary lost possessions she’d worked hard to collect over the years – things that represented a lot to her. She’s been struggling, lashing out at Romain, drinking heavily, and even welcoming Bre into her home – it’s a chaotic situation. The robbery has shaken up everyone at the O Group, and Chelsea, genuinely concerned for Mary, sent flowers – which is a kind gesture, even if it was done for publicity. It’s a bit hypocritical, though, considering Bre showed up at Mary’s house wearing her own branded merchandise, trying to appear supportive. Honestly, that felt much more self-serving than sending flowers. But as Mary tried to ask the camera crew to leave, it became clear this isn’t really about Chelsea or the flowers anymore. It’s about a power struggle and who’s really calling the shots.
We need to look closely at Jason’s decision to hire Sandra Vergara at The O Group. She claims to be Sofía Vergara’s cousin, and I think she’s telling the truth. Sandra is quickly gathering information by meeting with Chelsea, Bre, and Chrishell individually. She’s flattering Chrishell, connecting with Chelsea, and sympathizing with Bre, who seems to have had a bit to drink. It’s obvious she’s skilled at manipulation and was brought in to create drama. We may have escaped one problem, but this feels like we’ve walked into another.
Unlisted Observations
Okay, so I just watched this show and it was wild! Chrishell showed Delta Goodrem – who, let’s be real, could convince anyone she’s Australia’s sweetheart – a house that honestly looked like something I’d build on a chaotic day playing The Sims. But the best part? They found handcuffs in the closet! I’m choosing to believe it’s a haunted house with a very interesting past. Seriously, kinky ghost vibes all around!
While showing some clients a house that oddly resembles something built in the video game The Sims, Chelsea received encouragement – they reminded her that love can blossom in surprising situations. It wasn’t a conventional beauty, but it had a certain charm!
Bre’s sister appeared to brag about how popular Bre was in high school. It’s a bad sign when you need someone to vouch for your past coolness on a reality show, and even worse when you need to mix vodka with your coffee just to get through filming!
Bre told Sandra she’s avoiding three topics: religion, personal pronouns, and Mariah Carey. I get why she wouldn’t discuss religion or her favorite singer, but I’m curious—and maybe a little worried—about her stance on pronouns. It makes me wonder if she has strong opinions on other grammar topics too, like adverbs!
• Alanna watch: She is the one who donates the hair dryers, and honestly, bless her heart.
Heather joined the donation drive to remind everyone about when Bre’s friend appeared on the show.
