Selling Sunset Recap: Is She Really Going Out With Him?

Chrishell’s gotten a small victory, but things are still chaotic. Nicole’s been let go and replaced with Jet, a puppy who acts like a cat – a fun idea for social media, but a bit strange for a ten-episode reality show that needs drama! Thankfully, a new source of conflict has arrived: Blake, Emma’s ex-boyfriend who’s now back in the picture. He comes from money – his father apparently played a role in the creation of microwave popcorn and also made smart real estate investments. Chelsea points out he’s incredibly wealthy. She also describes him as friendly and funny, which is surprising considering Chrishell intensely dislikes him, and Emma is worried about telling her they’re dating again. Honestly, dealing with a privileged guy in sweatpants dating her friend is far less appealing than arguing with Nicole over dinner, but we’ll get to Blake’s story shortly.

After the drama at Girlsgiving, Chrishell has declared she won’t be around Nicole anymore – and she seems serious this time. She’s made this clear to both Amanza and Jason, even Jason while he was playfully dressed as a gangster. Now, the company owners are facing a tough choice: support Chrishell or Nicole. It’s pretty obvious who they’re likely to side with.

It’s just… watching Mary try to reconnect with Nicole at Queen Violet felt so strange. She says Nicole is one of her oldest friends, but it’s hard to see what she’s hoping to achieve, especially since Nicole doesn’t even think Mary’s done anything terribly wrong compared to what Chrishell has done. Honestly, it feels like Mary’s trying to fix things way too late. It’s just odd to me that this is the second friend of hers who’s gotten in trouble for being unkind to Chrishell and Emma – first Christine, now Nicole! And it’s the second time Mary’s acted totally shocked by a close friend’s behavior, which even Nicole seemed to question before leaving with a plate of untouched egg rolls – so sad! I’m starting to think Mary either doesn’t really know her friends very well, or she’s pretending not to. The more I watch, the more I suspect it’s the latter.

It’s notable that during the argument between Bre and Jess, Mary incorrectly remembered something Nicole said at the Girlsgiving dinner. Nicole actually said, “You’re confusing me with your parents, you seem to be obsessed with drugs.” This is significant because Nicole later claimed she wasn’t implying anything about Chrishell’s parents being alive or dead – she was making a different point altogether. (It’s pretty remarkable how Nicole can separate different parts of a conversation!) But Mary told Bre that Nicole had said, “I think you’re confusing me with your dead parents,” which made an already insensitive comment even harsher. It could have been a simple mistake, but it’s odd that Mary misremembered something said by the woman who performed her wedding ceremony. Doesn’t that raise some questions?

Now that Nicole’s no longer around, things are thankfully shifting away from drama about selling houses. Emma threw a party at Mel’s Drive-In to celebrate her vegan empanadas being added to the menu, and almost everyone showed up. Not Nicole, of course, and apparently Bre wasn’t required to participate in the effort to all get along. Chelsea did arrive, and immediately ignored Mary, bringing their old feud about a pants-related disagreement back to life. Luckily, Mary was too enthusiastic about roller-skating to start a fight. (Just so you know, Emma invited me to this party when I interviewed her last year, and if I’d known Chelsea would be showing up and playfully teasing Jason about his costume, I would have bought a plane ticket to be there!) It’s great to see Emma doing well with her business, even though her personal life is a bit chaotic.

Let’s move on to Blake. I really hope his parents aren’t aware of what’s happening (and if they’re no longer with us, let’s just forget I mentioned them and wish them peace). It seems pretty clear what’s going on: Emma told Chrishell she’s seeing Blake again, and Chrishell is willing to give him another chance. They all met for an event at a nice restaurant, and Emma later described it as Blake just stopping by for drinks. However, Chelsea actually said that if he gets through the dinner, he’ll have their approval. They even joked about making him pay the bill, and Chelsea was shown using a fork – suggesting it was a full meal. It looks like this was intended to be a dinner date with Blake, and Emma is now downplaying it in her interview.

Trying to understand Blake is like picturing someone who’s lived their whole life indoors, playing video games and being fed junk food. He’s consistently late and always wears sweatpants. And when asked if he wants to order food – because his date, Emma, has been waiting – he casually mentions he already ate Taco Bell. He’s never touched a fruit or vegetable, and when he first contacted Emma online, he spent a year messaging her repeatedly. He even offered to fly her to Boston on his private plane, believing it was near Atlanta. So, the next time someone claims the wealthy work harder or are smarter, remember Blake: someone who can barely read, likely has scurvy, and yet is richer than most of us.

To make matters even worse, Blake left early and left the women to cover the bill. It was a truly awful move, and honestly, incredibly rude. While it was satisfying to watch the confrontation, it was also really sad because Emma has a history of choosing bad partners, and it’s upsetting to think she accepts this kind of treatment. The only good thing is that Chrishell won’t put up with it. She quickly fired Nicole – a long-time friend of Jason and Mary and a successful agent – so Blake won’t last long either.

Unlisted Observations

As Nicole walked out of the office, leaving through the large hedge, a man stopped her and asked if she was on the show. She confirmed that she had been, and the man excitedly told her he was her wife’s biggest fan. I suspect he wasn’t telling the truth.

So, Jason and Brett already had those fedoras, didn’t they? That must be where they got them. But what really struck me was Jason’s fake glasses – does he think wearing them makes him look like he’s from the 1950s?

On the latest celebrity home tours, Chrishell Stause showed JoJo Siwa a perfect house for her, while Bre showed Lavar and Trish Arrington a listing she shares with someone she jokingly calls a ‘demon.’ Chelsea presented Tyrese Gibson and his family a highly secure mansion, including a panic room with bulletproof glass – just in case!

I think Taylor Swift might have seen advance copies of the show, which could explain why she used the word ‘savage’ in her song ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ and thought it was a common expression. Or, she could just be friends with Nicole, which isn’t too far-fetched.

My jaw dropped when Chelsea, who’s helping this cannabis business owner named Asa, said something about Steve Jobs. She was admiring his supposed office style and said, ‘It feels like this is what Steve Jobs’ office would have looked like.’ It was such a weird thing to say! I immediately thought, ‘Wait, does she think Steve Jobs doesn’t have an office anymore just because he’s passed away?’ It was a really strange comparison and honestly, a little confusing.

• Alanna Watch: She wore a cute dress to Emma’s party, and that’s about it.
