Season 2 has just started, and Todd Howard is already writing the script for the third one. Fallout 5 will be changed by the TV show

Fallout 5 wasn’t ready to coincide with the second season of the Amazon show, which wasn’t unexpected. However, the show’s creators are already discussing how elements from the new episodes could be incorporated into future Fallout games.

Bethesda isn’t sharing many details about its future games. While we know both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are in the works, concrete information is scarce, and most updates come from speculation or vague comments – like recent statements from Todd Howard following the new Fallout TV series.

Fallout with a combined TV series and games

Amazon’s second season of Fallout has been well-received, according to early reviews. Even dedicated fans noted the show sometimes included a lot of references. Bethesda’s head, Todd Howard, recently discussed the series with The Game Business and Variety, revealing that work on a third season is already underway. He also mentioned that the developers are exploring ways to integrate elements from the show into future Bethesda games.

Howard acknowledged players are frustrated there wasn’t a new game released with the TV show, but explained that Amazon’s production work will actually contribute to the development of the next major game in the series.

We know people are disappointed we don’t have a new game to coincide with the show’s success, but the show itself is fantastic and is already benefiting us. We’re happy with how things are going, and we’re confident the next major Fallout game will also be a hit when it arrives.

It’s true that currently, when we talk about ‘games,’ we’re mostly referring to Fallout 76, which already features content from the series and is free to play for a limited time. But even as a casual comment, Howard’s statement suggests the next season of the Amazon show will likely benefit the Fallout franchise, potentially including boosting interest in Fallout 5.

I was reading another interview with Howard, and he pretty much confirmed that Bethesda’s main focus right now is The Elder Scrolls 6 and keeping Fallout 76 going. Considering all we’ve seen of TES 6 is just a little teaser, it’s looking unlikely we’ll see anything related to it in seasons 3 or 4 of the show. Unless, of course, Howard pulls a surprise move like he did with the Oblivion remaster! He seems to really like keeping fans on their toes with unexpected releases.
