After ending with season nine, the beloved comedy Scrubs is coming back to ABC with a new series. However, production on the revival, slated for the 2025-2026 TV season, has already hit a snag.
According to Variety, Tim Hobert, one of the showrunners for the upcoming Scrubs revival, has left the project due to creative differences. Aseem Batra will now be the sole showrunner, as they both co-wrote the pilot episode.
Hobert was heavily involved in the original Scrubs as a writer and producer, holding roles from consulting producer to executive producer. He’ll continue as an executive producer for the first episodes of the show’s revival on ABC.
Filming for the Scrubs revival officially started in late September, with the production happening in Vancouver, Canada. As of today, Hobert hasn’t publicly commented on why he left the show.

Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison will be back as J.D., Elliot, and Turk in the new season, and they’re also involved as executive producers. John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) and Judy Reyes (Carla) will also return, appearing in multiple episodes.
ABC’s new Scrubs series revisits the beloved duo JD and Turk, who are reuniting after a long time. While the world of medicine and the interns have evolved, their close friendship remains as strong as ever. The show promises a mix of humor, heartwarming moments, and unexpected twists as both familiar and new characters navigate life at Sacred Heart Hospital.
The series has added Joel Kim Booster as Dr. Erik Park and Vanessa Bayer as Sibby to the cast. Several new interns are also joining Sacred Heart, including Ava Bunn as Serena, Jacob Dudman as Asher, David Gridley as Blake, Amanda Morrow as Dashana, and Layla Mohammadi as Amara.
For the time being, Scrubs has not landed a premiere date from ABC.
