Early content from a scrapped God of War game, made by the team behind the Demon’s Souls remake, has appeared online.
Early in the year, a few months after the cancellation of Concord, Sony decided to discontinue several live-service games created by its internal teams. This included a multiplayer-focused God of War game that Bluepoint Games was working on. Previously, they had also cancelled a multiplayer version of The Last of Us.
God of War that won’t be
We hadn’t heard much about this canceled game set in the Gears of War universe, except that it was intended to be a multiplayer experience. Recently, the team at MP1st obtained some screenshots from a very early build of the game.
Screenshots from MP1st reveal that Bluepoint Games was developing a new game with a strong focus on Greek mythology. The game would feature locations like temples dedicated to the Olympian gods and a potentially haunted armory. Sources suggest that Hades himself might appear, offering exciting possibilities for the story. If this game is a core part of the God of War series – and not just a side story – it would directly connect to Kratos’s existing adventures and the wider game universe.
Some details suggest a connection to Norse mythology, possibly drawing inspiration from old sagas, but it’s hard to say for sure based only on the available images. Similarly, the reason for the game’s cancellation remains unclear, beyond Sony’s hesitation to invest in live-service games following the failure of Concord. It’s well known that many gamers dislike this type of game, particularly when it’s applied to established single-player franchises, and often view it as a cynical attempt to profit from a popular name.

Kratos’ Egyptian adventures?
I’m hearing some really exciting news about Bluepoint Games! Apparently, they’re working on a new third-person action game where you’ll be doing a lot of close-up fighting. There’s a rumor it could be a remake of the very first game in the series, which would be awesome. Plus, it sounds like they might be able to reuse some of the work they did on that live-service game they unfortunately had to cancel, which is a smart move!
Sony is reportedly developing a third God of War game. Christopher Judge, who voices Kratos, has expressed his desire for more installments (according to Games Radar). He recently hinted at a potential Egyptian setting for the next game during a comic convention panel.
