Steamboat Willie‘s reign of terror is now set to hit the big screen this spring.
The release date of the horror movie “Screamboat” (originally Steamboat Willie), produced by Iconic Events Releasing, has been moved from late January to April in the U.S. theaters. The distributor recently revealed a sneak peek at the terrifying mouse character, played by David Howard Thornton, who is famed for his role as Art the Clown in the “Terrifier” series.
Steven LaMorte, the writer-director, is thrilled to reveal our mischievous take on a monster mouse to the world. ‘Screamboat’ is a tribute to Disney, infused with a darkly comical twist on the traditional theme,” said LaMorte. “Seeing David Howard Thornton breathe life into Steamboat Willie alongside Quantum Creation FX has been nothing less than astonishing – he’s both hysterically funny and eerily entertaining. I can hardly wait for viewers to encounter Willie and enjoy the turmoil we’ve orchestrated.
As a film aficionado, I’m excited about the upcoming movie titled ‘Screamboat’. According to its synopsis, this thriller takes us on a chilling late-night ferry voyage from New York, where a seemingly innocent mouse unleashes havoc by going on a deadly rampage against unsuspecting passengers. The story unfolds as an improbable group of travelers must rally together to confront the bloodthirsty terror before their peaceful journey morphs into a horrifying ordeal.
Multiple pre-premiere screenings for the movie “Screamboat” are scheduled to occur throughout the United States before its April launch. Additionally, the production team intends to attend several upcoming horror-themed conventions with a view to publicizing the film in the near future.
Director LaMorte, known for “The Mean One” (a 2022 horror spoof of Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”), led the creation of a Mickey Mouse-themed slasher movie. He collaborated on the script with Matthew Garcia-Dunn. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Allison Pittel (“Stream”), Tyler Posey (“Teen Wolf”), Amy Schumacher (“The Mean One”), Jesse and Tyler Posey (both from “Teen Wolf”), Jesse Kove (“Cobra Kai”), Kailey Hyman (“Terrifier 2”), Rumi C Jean-Louis (“Hightown”), Jarlath Conroy (from George A. Romero’s “Day of the Dead”), and Charles Edwin Powell (“The Exorcist III”). Guest appearances are made by Brian Quinn (“Impractical Jokers”) and stand-up comedian Joe DeRosa (“Better Call Saul”).
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Christian Cordella, who masterfully conceptualized the intricate special effects that transformed Thornton into a deadly mouse. Meanwhile, the brilliant team at Quantum Creation brought those designs to life through their exceptional craftsmanship.
The movie titled ‘Screamboat’ is developed by Amy Schumacher, Martine Melloul, Steven Della Salla, and Michael Leavy, with Kali Pictures, Sleight of Hand Productions, Reckless Content, and Julien Didon serving as executive producers. DeskPop Entertainment handles global distribution for ‘Screamboat’ and will supervise its digital and home video release.
