The horror genre boasts many classic films, and the Scream franchise is one of the most popular and impactful slasher series ever made. A new installment, Scream 7, is set to release on February 27th, and several previous Scream movies are currently trending on Paramount+.
According to data from FlixPatrol, all five Scream movies are currently in the top 10 most-watched films on Paramount+ in the United States. The original Scream from 1996 is number eight, while Scream VI reached as high as number seven. The 2022 Scream film is ninth, and Scream 2 rounds out the top ten.
Scream Is One of the Most Popular Horror Franchises of All Time
It’s no surprise that older Scream movies are popular on streaming right now. Scream (2022) is currently the sixth most-watched film on Paramount+ globally, and Scream VI is fifth. Many fans are likely revisiting the recent films before seeing the newest installment.
I still think Scream is one of the greatest horror movies ever made! It really revitalized the slasher genre, and I remember how much buzz it created when it came out in the ’90s. Since 1996, Ghostface has become such an iconic villain – you see him everywhere around Halloween, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s a true staple of the season!
The 1996 film Scream was a major hit, earning about $173 million on a $15 million budget. The Scream franchise has continued to be successful with its sequels, including one that earned $169 million on a $35 million budget and became the first film since Scream 2 to make over $100 million domestically.
Scream 7 Also Features the Return of One of the Most Iconic Final Girls
Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott is a hugely popular and instantly recognizable “final girl” in slasher films. First appearing in the original Scream, she’s become a horror icon thanks to her appearances throughout the franchise.
Neve Campbell didn’t appear in one of the Scream movies, but she’s coming back for Scream 7. Her return is a major reason fans are excited about the new film, and likely contributing to the popularity of past Scream movies on streaming platforms.
As a huge Scream fan, I’m so excited for the next movie! It’s bringing back some of the best from the earlier films – David Arquette and Matthew Lillard are both returning, which is amazing. And Courteney Cox is incredible; she’s the only original cast member who’s been in every Scream movie! It’s got me, and a lot of other fans, revisiting the older films to get ready for what’s coming in Scream 7.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Scream series, Scream 7, and many are revisiting the earlier films to prepare. With the movie scheduled to release in US theaters on February 27, 2026, now is a great time to watch the whole series again.
