The next installment in the popular horror series, Scream 7, is heading to theaters, and some details about the plot and cast have already been released. Neve Campbell is returning to the franchise after sitting out Scream 6, reprising her role as Sidney Prescott alongside Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers. While several familiar faces are back, the movie will also feature new characters, including a significant role for Sidney’s daughter, Tatum. However, two key stars won’t be returning: Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, and Jenna Ortega, who played her sister, Tara.
As a huge fan of the ‘Scream’ movies, the latest plot sounds terrifying! It looks like a new Ghostface is going to start haunting a peaceful town, and things get really personal for Sidney Prescott. Apparently, her worst nightmares are coming true, and this time, her daughter is in danger. That’s what drives Sidney to finally try and stop the cycle of violence for good – she’s determined to end the killings once and for all.
Sidney Prescott, trying to live a peaceful life, is horrified when a new Ghostface killer appears and targets her daughter. To keep her family safe, Sidney is forced to confront the terrifying events of her past and finally stop the cycle of violence.
Although the full terror of Scream 7 won’t be revealed until February 27, 2026, a trailer recently dropped just in time for Halloween. Unfortunately, between clues in the trailer and information that leaked online, seven major plot spoilers for Scream 7 are already known.
The Scream Franchise’s New Setting

Guy Busick, the writer for Scream 7, told ComicBook that the new movie, coming out in 2026, will be set more than two years after the previous film. This time jump will allow the children of Sidney Prescott to be older and have more significant parts in the story.
Sidney has built a quiet life in Pine Grove, Indiana, marrying the town’s police chief, Mark Evans, and raising their three children in safety… but that peace is about to be shattered.
Recent photos from the movie set, shared on Reddit, show parts of the town of Pine Grove. These include the high school that Tatum and her friends likely go to, and a coffee shop that some fans believe will be owned by Sidney.
Meet Scream 7’s New Characters
Sadly, Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, and Jenna Ortega, who played her sister Tara, won’t be in Scream 7. However, the Scream franchise will continue, and the next movie, planned for 2026, will feature several new characters. Details about these new additions were recently shared by insider Daniel Richtman on Patreon.
Though the characters’ real names were kept secret, Taylor—now known as Tatum and portrayed by Isabel May—is the teenage daughter of Neve Campbell’s longtime character, Sydney Prescott.

Tatum is surrounded by a group of friends that includes her boyfriend, who’s known for breaking hearts, a wealthy and popular friend, and a neighbor who is attractive but gives off unsettling vibes.
McKenna Grace plays Hannah, who’s expected to be the popular and influential girl, while Celeste O’Connor is Chloe, the one who breaks hearts. Sam Rechner joins the cast as Ben, Tatum’s boyfriend, and Asa Germann plays Lucas, the strange new kid next door.
Joining the cast is Jessica, a woman in her 40s or 50s, who plays the mother of Logan, a character reminiscent of Al Bundy. She’ll also be a friend and neighbor to Sidney, played by Anna Camp, known for her role in the Netflix series You.
There’s talk that Joel McHale will return as Mark Evans, Sidney’s husband and the police chief of Pine Grove, and Mark Consuelos will reprise his role as Robbie Rivers, a reporter who often clashes with Gale Weathers when she’s in town.
Scream 7’s Two Main Storylines

A new rumor from insider MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Scream 7 might feature two separate, parallel storylines. Each storyline would involve a different group of characters facing off against Ghostface, potentially indicating that there will be more than one killer in the movie.
Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott, leading a group that likely includes Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, as well as returning fan favorites Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, played by Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
The second trailer will highlight Sidney’s daughter, Tatum Prescott, and her friends, hinting at how their stories will connect. It shows Sidney using security footage to help her daughter, who is in danger, successfully shoot Ghostface, even through a wall.
The Original Ghostface’s Return

I’m so excited to see Matthew Lillard joining the MCU as part of Daredevil: Born Again! But before that, he’s going back to his roots and playing Stu Macher, one of the original Ghostface killers again. It’s a little weird though, because Sidney actually killed Stu by dropping a TV on him in the first movie, so it’s a mystery how he’s coming back!
He’s not the only returning killer from the Scream movies. Scott Foley will be back as Roman Bridger, a character from the third film who has killed more people than anyone else in the series – a total of nine.
In addition to the previously announced Ghostface actors returning, Daniel Richtman reports that Skeet Ulrich will also be back as Billy Loomis, one of the killers from the first Scream movie alongside Stu Macher.
Stu Macher’s AI-Centric Plot Twist

A new report from Daniel Richtman suggests that Scream 7 will feature a clever way to bring back familiar Ghostface killers. According to Richtman, the movie will heavily utilize artificial intelligence, deepfake technology, and the legacies of past killers.
Richtman also explained that the killer uses FaceTime to make calls. They employ AI to sound like Matthew Lillard’s character, Stu Macher, and likely other previous killers, in order to torment Sidney Prescott and her friends.
This leak should relieve fans worried that the new Scream movie would simply bring back old villains. Instead, it appears the film will use past killers to scare the main characters and also explore themes related to artificial intelligence.
The Ghostface Cult

For a long time, people have suspected a dedicated group, almost a cult, obsessed with Ghostface is targeting Sidney Prescott and those close to her, with the goal of frightening them deeply.
The original idea for Scream 3 included a Ghostface cult at Woodsboro High, secretly run by Stu Macher from prison – it turned out he hadn’t actually died. However, when Ehren Kruger took over writing the script, this plotline was cut.
With Matthew Lillard returning for the next Scream film, fans increasingly believe Scream 7 will explore the Ghostface cult storyline—potentially even incorporating the original idea for Stu Macher’s character that writer Kevin Williamson had envisioned.
Adding to the speculation about the next Scream movie, Daniel Richtman reported that Scream 7 will likely feature more than two Ghostface killers, similar to the five killers in the previous film. This has led to increased rumors about the possible introduction of a Ghostface cult.
According to Daniel Richtman, the upcoming Scream 7 is being planned as the start of a new trilogy. Many believe Tatum Prescott will have a significant role throughout Scream 7, 8, and 9, potentially teaming up with her mother and other familiar faces from the series to defeat a new group of Ghostface killers.
The Macher Family Conspiracy

In the first trailer for Scream 7, the Ghostface calling Sidney Prescott says that her new home in Pine Grove, Indiana, feels similar to the town where the original Scream movies took place – Woodsboro, California.
Fans believe Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher, provided the voice for the trailer’s closing line, “This is gonna be fun.” This seems to be a reference to his awkward delivery of “It was fun” when he was revealed as Ghostface in the original movie.
Fans are guessing who’s behind the new Ghostface attacks in Scream 7, and many believe it could be Stu Macher’s sister, Leslie. This would connect to the film’s promise of Sidney Prescott confronting past traumas, as Leslie was the one who originally killed the first Ghostface.
Although Leslie Schneider has never appeared on screen in the Scream movies, her son, Vince Schneider, was a villain in the 2022 film. Fans have speculated that Anna Camp’s character, Jessica, might actually be Leslie in disguise, pretending to be a neighbor and friend to Sidney. The physical similarity between Camp and Matthew Lillard (who played Stu Macher) is striking enough to make the sibling connection believable.
This family connection would make Jessica’s son, Logan, Stu’s nephew. Considering Logan’s unsettling resemblance to Ted Bundy, many fans suspect this mother and son could be the hidden villains in Scream 7, potentially becoming the next Ghostfaces.
If the stories about a Ghostface cult are true, Leslie Macher might be revealed as its leader or an important member. It’s also possible that friends and family of previous Ghostface killers – those defeated by Sidney, Gale, and others – are involved with her.
