Scream 7 has a touching tribute to one of Ghostface’s original victims

The next Scream movie includes a touching homage to a character who was originally targeted by Ghostface. This feels especially meaningful as 2026 will be the 30th anniversary of the very first Scream film.

The latest installment of the series again centers on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as she battles for survival against a new masked killer targeting her family. The cast includes several new faces, such as Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Celeste O’Connor, and Asa Germann from the show Gen V.

Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown will be back as the Martin-Meeks twins, continuing their roles from the last two Scream movies. Courtney Cox is also returning as Gale Weathers, the determined reporter. Fans will be happy to see Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley – who previously played Ghostface in Scream and Scream 3 – join the cast again, though it’s currently unknown how big their roles will be.

It’s clear that Scream 7 will be a nostalgic celebration of the whole Scream series—much like the other films—and Neve Campbell recently shared that the new movie includes a touching tribute to one of the very first Ghostface victims.

Sidney’s daughter in Scream 7 is named after one of Ghostface’s original victims

I just heard from Kevin Williamson talking to People magazine that Mindy and Gale’s daughter, Tatum, is actually named after the Tatum Riley from the first Scream! You know, Rose McGowan’s character who sadly died at Stu Macher’s party. It’s a really sweet way to honor her, and I totally didn’t see that connection coming!

“That’s just lovely,” she said. “Rose did an amazing job in the film, and everyone loves that character and misses her. It really fits that Sidney would name her daughter Tatum – it’s a beautiful tribute, I think.”

Viewers will likely recall Tatum’s shocking death: trapped in the basement by Ghostface, she attempted to escape through a small pet door. However, the killer activated the garage door, tragically crushing her as she was trying to squeeze through. It was a particularly violent and unforgettable scene.

Neve Campbell, who stars in ‘Scream 7’, revealed that the cast didn’t actually meet Roger Jackson – the voice of the Ghostface killer – until after they’d finished filming the second ‘Scream’ movie.

TopMob recently spoke with Neve Campbell about her experiences filming the Scream movies. She shared that she didn’t meet Roger Jackson, the voice of Ghostface, until after the first two films. This helped create a truly frightening atmosphere on set, as the actors didn’t know who was delivering the terrifying threats.
