Enjoying DC Comics? You’re in luck – it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. Scott Snyder, a co-creator of Absolute Universe, has hinted at exciting changes, specifically focusing on the character Poison Ivy.
At MegaCon Orlando 2026, Zack Snyder shared exciting details about the future of the Absolute anthology.
Snyder was fascinated by the unexpected capabilities of living things, such as jellyfish that can essentially rewind their life cycle. After learning about plants that can withstand nuclear explosions, he wanted to explore what Ivy could be beyond just a plant-based hero, ‘The Green’.
Absolute Poison Ivy Will Gain Insane New Powers
According to Snyder, Poison Ivy is about to branch out with her powers.
I really enjoy those kinds of stories. We’ve seen similar things with characters like Swamp Thing – like when he took control of Gotham. But what if we just expanded on that idea? Instead of focusing only on plants, what if Poison Ivy started experimenting with combining animals, insects, and life from all kingdoms? That’s why we call it the seven kingdoms of life, and she essentially becomes a representative of everything within our series. She’s still developing her powers and will be a major force again soon.
You read that right: Poison Ivy’s powers have expanded beyond plants to now affect animals, potentially making her the most dangerous enemy Batman has ever faced.
When Will Poison Ivy Return to the Absolute Universe?
Arkham Knight is revealing some truly disturbing events, including human experimentation led by scientists but ultimately controlled by the Joker, who is determined to destroy Batman. It’s easy to imagine the dangerous possibilities for characters like Poison Ivy within this chaotic environment.
I didn’t want to repeat anything from the Absolute edition, and while you’ve seen similar powers with Swamp Thing, you haven’t seen him combined with all those different color palettes – the red, gray, and black. Plus, Poison Ivy’s abilities combined with that visual style, and having a character who embodies both creation and destruction, is the direction we’re taking.
You’re probably curious about when Absolute Poison Ivy will be back with her amazing new abilities. According to Snyder, we can expect her return in roughly a year.
