Scott Snyder Drops a Disturbing Fact About Absolute Joker I Wish I Didn’t Know

Comic book writer Scott Snyder recently revealed a disturbing detail about the Absolute Joker, and some readers are regretting that he did.

Zack Snyder recently revealed a disturbing detail about the Joker’s appearance in the upcoming Absolute Batman #15. Responding to an image of the variant cover by Glenn Fabry, Snyder explained that the red lines drawn over the Joker’s eyes aren’t just markings – they’re actually his mouth, complete with teeth. This unsettling revelation quickly spread online, shocking many fans. You can see the cover image below.

The Joker presented in the Absolute Batman comics is a significant departure from typical portrayals. He’s not the familiar, chaotic ‘Clown Prince of Crime,’ nor the physically imposing villain hinted at in some stories. Instead, this Joker is a wealthy and secretive billionaire focused on preserving the existing order while increasing his own power. Over the years, he’s become a major figure in both legitimate business and the criminal world, largely due to his network of facilities – known as Arks, like Ark M – and the disturbing experiments conducted within them.

As a huge Batman fan, I was blown away back in September when Snyder first showed us what the Absolute Joker would look like! It’s this seriously monstrous version of the Joker – he’s still massive, but covered in spikes, horns, and these pulsing veins that look like they’re filled with Venom, the stuff that made Bane so strong. The description for the first issue of Absolute Batman #15 says Snyder and artist Jock are teaming up again to tell this epic story, and Alfred finally reveals the history behind the Joker – the guy Bruce has been hunting for years!

As the Absolute Joker prepares to make a big impact, his former sidekick is working to dismantle everything he’s created. In Absolute Batman #13, we saw Harley Quinn reimagined in the Absolute Universe, offering a darker take on the character – and another classic Batman figure. This Harley isn’t a colorful trickster; she’s the calm and clever leader of the Red Hood Gang. Surprisingly, she’s found an ally in Batman, sharing his desire to destroy the Joker’s Ark M and sink it into the ocean, motivated by her own hidden reasons.

Absolute Batman #15 is currently slated to go on sale this December from DC Comics.
