The latest Jurassic Park movie was a big hit this summer, becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing films, even though it didn’t quite reach the $1 billion mark like previous installments. The success all but guarantees more dinosaur-themed movies are on the way, and now the film is also performing well on streaming services, quickly becoming a top title.
Jurassic World Rebirth marked a fresh start for the franchise, moving away from familiar faces and introducing a new cast led by Mahershala Ali as they explore a dangerous island filled with dinosaurs. Despite criticism calling the movie flawed and lacking substance, audiences continued to flock to theaters, proving that the Jurassic saga still has plenty of life left. Here’s what the story is about:
Five years after the end of the events in Jurassic World Dominion, most of the world has become unsuitable for dinosaurs. Only a few still survive in limited, warm, tropical areas that remind them of their original habitat. These three massive dinosaurs hold the secret to a revolutionary medicine that could save countless human lives.
Ultimately, a Jurassic movie’s success depends on its exciting moments and how realistic the dinosaurs look. The latest film delivered on both fronts, earning a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes – a better rating than the 50% score from critics. But the real measure of its popularity is the $868 million it earned at the box office, which is why another Jurassic movie is already being planned.
‘Jurassic World Rebirth 2’ Is Reportedly in Development

Universal Pictures
Although it was a gamble to essentially restart the Jurassic series so quickly after Jurassic World: Dominion and move away from Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, it appears the decision was successful. Reports from September suggest that Scarlett Johansson is being considered to lead another film, but it’s unclear if director Gareth Edwards will be back, or if any other surviving actors will return.
Jurassic World: Rebirth had a unique advantage that future sequels won’t: it finally brought a key scene from Michael Crichton’s original novel to life – the river raft sequence. Now that the story has explored genetically modified dinosaurs being sold illegally, used for medical breakthroughs, and even considered as weapons, the direction of the next Jurassic film is uncertain. While the idea of weaponized dinosaurs has only been subtly suggested so far, it could become a central plot point, offering a fresh direction for the franchise beyond the familiar story of people escaping dinosaurs on an island.
Jurassic World Rebirth is now streaming on Peacock.
