Scarlett Johansson shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that for quite some time, she’d been passing on industry updates about future “Jurassic Park” films to her representatives, hoping to be a part of the series. Now, her wish is coming true as she stars alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali in this summer’s release, “Jurassic World Rebirth.
Johnson shared that she was deeply fond of the original film, and for an entire year, she slept in a tent modeled after ‘Jurassic Park’ in her shared bedroom with her sister. Whenever news about a new ‘Jurassic’ movie would break in the industry, she would eagerly inform her agents, saying something like, ‘I’m ready to join the team!’
While Johansson was working on reshoots for her Marvel film “Black Widow” at Pinewood Studios in Britain during 2020, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were nearby on a soundstage shooting “Jurassic World Dominion.” The actor expressed to her team: “Let me see the sets! I want to get involved!”

During her reshoots for “Black Widow” at Pinewood Studios in 2020, Johansson found Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard next door filming “Jurassic World Dominion.” Excited to join the action, she asked her team: “Can I see the sets? Let me participate!
Eventually, Johansson managed to secure a sit-down with Steven Spielberg, renowned for helming the initial “Jurassic Park” movie and its 1997 follow-up, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” During this meeting, they discussed various prospective ventures, but Johansson’s primary interest lay in the “Jurassic” series.
In our conversation, we hadn’t delved into work matters, and instead spent hours reminiscing and chatting. After what seemed like several hours, he suddenly asked, ‘Hold on, weren’t we supposed to discuss “Jurassic”? I heard you’re a massive fan?’ Johansson replied, ‘Well, that’s true. I’m admitting it. I am indeed a huge fan.’
She held back from sharing with Spielberg that she lived in a “Jurassic Park” tent for an entire year, as she didn’t want to give the impression of being a “strange fanatic.” However, looking back, she wishes she had done so.
Johansson mentioned that because of the Avengers series, she often encounters fans who are deeply touched by the characters and universe. She understands their enthusiasm, as it’s delightful to interact with such people. However, in this instance, she might have been more straightforward. Instead, she found herself thinking, ‘Maintain professionalism. Avoid appearing too eager. Forget about the camping trip for now.’
Currently, Johansson is spearheading “Jurassic World Rebirth” as Zora Bennet, a former mercenary who now heads a team of scientists on an expedition to recover dinosaur blood with potential benefits for heart disease treatment. In interviews with ComicBook.com, she disclosed that she had been striving for 10 years to join the dinosaur series, even expressing her willingness to meet an untimely end in the opening scenes.
“Jurassic World Rebirth” opens nationwide July 2 from Universal Pictures.
